This is a genuine specialist role with breadth and autonomy. You'll combine strategic advice with practical delivery, working across the whole of Council to embed risk-based decision making, audit readiness and strong security practices.
You will make an impact by

- Overseeing our Managed Security Service Provider and SOC outputs, turning alerts and reports into prioritised, actionable outcomes
- Driving vulnerability management, patch and configuration compliance, including remediation coordination and reporting
- Coordinating cyber security incident response, providing specialist guidance from assessment through to resolution
- Leading compliance activities, audits, evidence preparation, and security policy and documentation
- Conducting vendor and third-party security risk assessments
- Providing subject matter expertise to major technology and business projects, including ERP initiatives
- Contributing to AI governance aligned to ISO/IEC 42001
- Mentoring and guiding IT staff to uplift cyber security capability across the team
- A relevant tertiary qualification in IT, Cybersecurity or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Demonstrated experience in cyber security operations, risk and compliance within a complex environment
- Experience implementing or uplifting controls aligned to recognised frameworks (Essential Eight, ISO 27001, NIST or CIS)
- Experience working with MSSPs, vendors and auditors to achieve measurable security and compliance outcomes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical actions
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence outcomes without direct authority
- Experience mentoring technical staff and driving accountability for security practices
- A current Victorian Driver Licence
