About The Role
The Mastercard Authentication Program owns how consumer authentication works for both in-store and e-commerce transactional use cases. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and deliver best-of-breed authentication products for e-commerce transactional use cases that will drive uptake and penetration for the products and revenue for Mastercard. The authentication products that fall within this role’s responsibilities are ID Check, Token Authentication Service and Token Authentication Framework.

Role
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Design and develop secure, reliable, and scalable solutions for globally distributed customer-facing products
- Support development teams and work with stakeholders, promoting agile development
- Create a culture of technical excellence and innovation
- Research, create and evaluate technical solution alternatives for business needs using current and emerging technologies and frameworks
- Drive advanced testing strategies including automation, chaos engineering, and resilience testing to validate system behavior under failure conditions
- Remain hands-on by contributing to code, including building services, APIs, and writing unit, integration, and acceptance tests as well as architecture fitness functions
- Work with business/product owners to architect and deliver new services to introduce new products and bundles
- Participate in and contribute to team agile processes, including prioritization, trade-offs, and delivery planning
- Drive architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions, and policies
- Take ownership of improving the customer experience across a portfolio of services and applications
- Contribute and lead initiatives by mentoring engineers at all levels to improve software engineering craftsmanship
- Consult across teams and organizational boundaries to identify synergies and reuse opportunities
- Conduct technical interviews and help raise the engineering talent bar
- Conduct and lead code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, performance optimization, security best practices, and maintainability
- Establish and enforce code quality governance practices, including static analysis, peer reviews, and secure coding guidelines
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, promoting clean code principles, reusable design, and continuous improvement
- Drive consistency in development standards across teams and ensure high-quality, production-ready deliverables
- Apply strong data structures and algorithms knowledge to design efficient, scalable, and high-performance systems
- Optimize application performance through effective use of data modeling, memory management, and algorithmic efficiency
- Make informed design trade-offs based on computational complexity, scalability, and system constraints
- Guide teams in applying foundational computer science principles to solve complex engineering problems
- Java, J2EE, microservices, RESTful APIs, Angular, Web Services, JavaScript, HTML/CSS
- Frameworks: Spring (Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Batch, Spring REST, Spring Cloud, AOP), Hibernate
- UI frameworks: React, Angular
- API design and tooling best practices
- Cloud and DevOps: Kubernetes, Docker, Pivotal Cloud Foundry
- Databases: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redis
- Tools: IntelliJ/Eclipse, Sonar, Git, Maven, Jenkins, CI/CD, Gatling
- Hands-on experience designing solutions and full-stack development in modern technologies for large-scale enterprise systems
- Strong experience building microservices in Java and developing UI components using frameworks like React or Angular
- Experience deploying applications via CI/CD pipelines, Docker containers, and Kubernetes
- Working knowledge of application security principles: encryption/decryption, PKI, hashing, JWT, OAuth, OIDC, zero trust
- Experience designing systems with non-functional requirements in mind: performance, scalability, availability, extensibility, and supportability
- Experience applying code review best practices and maintaining high standards of engineering quality
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization techniques
- Experience designing and executing automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, and system testing
- Ability to coach teams on full-stack development and end-to-end service ownership
- Skilled in driving trade-off discussions across competing priorities (security, regulatory, technical debt, etc.)
- Strong communicator with the ability to clearly articulate complex architecture decisions to technical and business stakeholders
- Experience leading advanced operational and failure testing practices such as chaos engineering
- Experience with Agile and modern SDLC practices: Scrum, Kanban, CI/CD, DevOps, and Quality Engineering
- Ability to operate under pressure while managing complex initiatives and competing priorities
- Adaptability in fast-changing environments with evolving technologies
