Senior DevSecOps Engineer

Role Description

We are seeking a Senior DevSecOps Engineer to build, automate, and secure the software supply chain that delivers our products into a hardened AWS GovCloud environment. This is a full-time, in-office role for an experienced professional who combines a deep, practical understanding of modern CI/CD practices, container and artifact management, and security principles. You will be the crucial link between our product engineering team and our cloud platform — owning the path from a developer's commit, through automated build, test, and security scanning, to a signed, packaged product published for deployment. You will be a key enabler for our engineering teams, responsible for the stability, security, and efficiency of the digital infrastructure that connects our software to mission-critical space systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer the GitLab application and CI/CD platform — runner fleets, project and group structure, pipeline configuration, and application-level security features — partnering with the Cloud Platform team, who owns the underlying GitLab infrastructure.
  • Configure, maintain, and optimize robust CI/CD pipelines to automate the building, testing, and deployment of software in a constrained, air-gapped GovCloud network.
  • Own the product-packaging and self-service deployment path via AWS Service Catalog — authoring and maintaining portfolios and products so engineering teams can provision approved infrastructure safely and repeatably.
  • Manage and secure containerized workflows, including building, scanning, and publishing OCI images to Amazon Elastic Container Registry (ECR), including cross-account distribution.
  • Integrate security tooling and best practices throughout the development lifecycle (SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets scanning, and software composition / SBOM generation).
  • Operate effectively within a self-hosted zero-trust architecture and air-gapped network controls, partnering with the platform and network-security teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and our ISSO to support evidence collection and continuous monitoring for systems aligned to NIST 800-171 and/or NIST 800-53 (FedRAMP / DoD impact-level posture).
  • Automate provisioning, configuration management, and pipeline-level security monitoring using Infrastructure as Code.
  • Support and mentor other engineers on DevSecOps best practices and tooling.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a DevSecOps, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) role.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, ideally including service-level work in AWS GovCloud.
  • Significant hands-on experience administering GitLab, including CI/CD pipeline configuration, runner management, and security features.
  • Strong knowledge of building, securing, and managing container images and workflows.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., AWS CloudFormation/CDK, Terraform, or Helm).
  • Must possess or be willing and eligible to obtain a United States Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS Service Catalog and/or Landing Zone Accelerator.
  • Proficiency in scripting or programming, particularly with Python (Go and PowerShell a plus).
  • Comfort working in a regulated environment and building auditable, evidence-generating pipelines (e.g., SBOMs, scan reports, signing/provenance); familiarity with NIST 800-171 or 800-53 a plus.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS Security – Specialty, CISSP, GitLab Certified Associate).
  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
