Key Responsibilities
- Test Automation & Execution: Design, develop, and maintain a robust, highly scalable test automation framework primarily utilizing Java.
- Event-Driven Testing: Validate data pipelines, microservices, and asynchronous messaging systems centered around Apache Kafka.
- Cross-Functional Contribution: Pick up simple development tickets, minor bug fixes, and application code enhancements to unblock the engineering team and boost overall sprint velocity.
- Quality Strategy: Conduct system analysis, risk assessment, and test strategy development by reviewing product designs, technical specifications, and collaborating with product managers and developers.
- Defect Management: Investigate, troubleshoot, and thoroughly document product defects and architectural issues.
- Bioinformatics Collaboration: Partner with software engineers and bioinformatics scientists throughout the SDLC to embed quality and data-driven testing into the development process.
- Continuous Improvement: Champion new testing methodologies, best practices, and CI/CD integrations to enhance test coverage and efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- 5+ years of solid test automation experience, with a proven track record of building frameworks from scratch.
- Strong Java Expertise: High-level proficiency in Java programming for both complex test automation and application-level contributions.
- Kafka Proficiency: Solid experience testing event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging queues using Apache Kafka.
- Development Readiness: Demonstrated willingness and ability to read application code and tackle straightforward development tasks/tickets.
- Automation Tooling: Hands-on experience with Java-based test automation libraries and tools (e.g., JUnit, TestNG, Selenium, REST Assured).
- Data Validation: Deep understanding of relational databases and strong SQL skills for data-driven testing.
- Systems & Infrastructure: Strong Linux expertise and command-line scripting proficiency.
- QA Fundamentals: Deep understanding of quality engineering methodologies, test planning, system dependencies, and integration phases.
- Basic knowledge of foundational bioinformatics algorithms (e.g., Alignment, Demultiplexing, Variant Calling).
- Dynamic and supporting international teams.
