Principal Security Engineer

Salary: $200,000–$235,000 plus bonuses and full benefits

100% Remote from the continental US excluding the Pacific Time Zone and New York City

About the Role

This is a senior individual‑contributor security engineering role for someone who is deeply technical, hands‑on, and comfortable partnering directly with developers. You’ll own how MapLarge designs, builds, and tests secure software across the entire SDLC. That includes writing and reviewing code, tuning and operating security tooling, leading threat modeling, and guiding secure design across a wide range of deployment environments. This is not a hands‑off management role or a DevOps position.

About MapLarge

Since 2009, MapLarge’s rapidly growing software platform has enabled Fortune 1000 enterprises and government agencies to develop, scale, and deploy mission‑critical applications. Trusted by the world's most sophisticated organizations, our enterprise platform for geospatial analytics and visualization automates decision intelligence and offers a distinct decision advantage. We build cutting‑edge products for large enterprises and government agencies that appreciate innovation. If you enjoy working with talented teammates to solve complex challenges, we'd love for you to join us.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering leads to design and build secure systems
  • Write and review code to identify and fix security issues directly
  • Own and improve security testing across the SDLC (SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets scanning, fuzzing)
  • Operate and tune security tools and integrate them into CI pipelines
  • Lead threat modeling and secure design reviews across diverse deployment environments
  • Triage and drive remediation of vulnerabilities from internal and external sources
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams on security findings and status
  • Mentor engineers and raise the overall security capability of the organization

Requirements:

  • Must reside in the continental United States
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field)
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. with no visa sponsorship required
  • 10+ years building and architecting production software (.NET/C#, TypeScript, Python, Linux)
  • Strong secure‑by‑design skills: threat modeling, trust boundaries, applied cryptography
  • Deep experience with authentication/authorization frameworks (OAuth2/OIDC, SAML, RBAC/ABAC)
  • Hands‑on secure coding experience across .NET, TypeScript/Node, and Python
  • Experience operating and tuning security testing tools and integrating them into CI
  • Strong vulnerability management and remediation experience
  • Ability to reason about security across cloud, on‑prem, containerized, mobile, and edge deployments
  • Player‑coach leadership style with a track record of mentoring engineers

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001)
  • Experience with mobile or edge security
  • Offensive security or research background (pen testing, CTFs, bug bounty, CVEs)
  • US person status or clearance eligibility
  • Experience with geospatial, big‑data, or high‑throughput analytics
  • Relevant certifications (OSCP, GPEN/GWAPT, CSSLP, CISSP)

Cultural Fit

While we hire all kinds of people and invent roles to fit them, there are four key traits we require of every team member that really define our team.

  • Fun to Work With - Life is short and work should be fun.
  • Smart - We work on cutting-edge hard problems. We need people who are quick learners, can anticipate needs, and solve problems independently while working with an intelligent peer group.
  • Passionate & Proactive - We need people who really love their work and exhibit the energy and creativity that comes from being fully engaged in what you do.
  • Adaptable - We hire team members for specific roles, but we expect adaptability as the business needs change and evolve.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and 401K
  • Top‑notch health care
  • Family‑friendly environment
  • 100% remote flexibility
  • Cutting‑edge tech with an A+ team solving complex, meaningful problems
  • Collaborative, intelligent, positive, and supportive team culture
