Senior Hardware Security Engineer - Embedded & Reverse Engineering
About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Hardware Security Engineer to join a specialist technical team working on complex security challenges across embedded systems, IoT devices and critical hardware platforms. This is a hands-on research and engineering role that requires deep offensive security expertise and the ability to uncover vulnerabilities at the silicon and firmware levels.
You will design and execute advanced security assessments, develop novel attack methodologies, and contribute to the broader security research community. The work spans laboratory-based hardware analysis through to real-world device evaluation and the development of proprietary tooling.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hardware security assessments including side-channel analysis, fault injection and anti-tamper bypass techniques
- Conduct firmware reverse engineering, binary analysis and embedded penetration testing across MCU and FPGA platforms
- Assess secure boot implementations, OTA bootloader security and Root of Trust architectures
- Evaluate HSM, TPM, and Secure Element integrations and cryptographic implementations (AES, RSA, ECC, PKI)
- Perform IoT device assessments and OT/critical infrastructure security evaluations
- Conduct threat modelling, vulnerability assessment and produce detailed technical security reports
- Develop custom tooling, fuzzing frameworks and exploit proof-of-concepts
- Apply static analysis and secure code review against CERT C/C++, CWE, and OWASP standards
- Stay current with emerging attack techniques, vulnerability research and hardware security standards
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong background in hardware security: side-channel (DPA/SPA), fault injection, JTAG/SWD/UART debugging
- Firmware reverse engineering and binary analysis (disassembly, decompilation, protocol analysis)
- Experience with MCU/FPGA security assessments and secure element evaluation
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python; experience with RTOS environments
- Solid understanding of cryptographic primitives and their hardware implementations
- Experience with Common Criteria (EAL3+/EAL4+) or PSA Certified evaluations desirable
- Knowledge of IEC 62443, ISO 27005, or NIST frameworks
Desirable Skills
- Automotive cybersecurity experience: ISO/SAE 21434, TARA, AUTOSAR, ECU security
- OT/critical infrastructure security: smart grid, rail, oil & gas, smart meters
- Machine learning applied to security: anomaly detection, attack classification, CNN/autoencoder models
- Control systems: sensor fusion, Kalman filters, navigation systems
- Experience presenting at security conferences or publishing research
What We Offer
- Highly technical, research-driven environment working on cutting-edge hardware security challenges
- Collaborative team with deep domain expertise across hardware, embedded and cryptographic security
- Competitive compensation
