SENIOR CYBERSECURITY ENGINEER
Indexed description
You will be responsible for shaping the network security and cryptographic strategies within the build team. Your role involves translating NIST standards into specific, actionable values that the collector reads, which the Detection Layer scores, and the Reasoning Layer explains. As a Cybersecurity Engineer, you will define the benchmarks for effective monitoring from Levels 1 to 3, ensure the practical integration of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) at the protocol level, and act as a liaison with IonQ's product team regarding questions on cryptography and quantum protocols.
Requirements
- 10+ years in network security operations or network-security engineering, with hands-on exposure to telemetry, SLO / SLI definition, and vulnerability management.
- Deep, working knowledge of NIST standards and the discipline of mapping them to device-level configuration, telemetry, and control values — not just citing them.
- Strong experience assessing network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, VPN gateways, load balancers, or similar infrastructure) against security and compliance requirements.
- Experience mapping security framework requirements to device-level configurations, telemetry, logs, and operational evidence.
- Experience working with security and compliance frameworks such as NIST CSF 2.0, NIST SP 800-series, FedRAMP, Common Criteria, CIS Controls, or equivalent frameworks.
- Familiarity with crypto-agility programs, emerging cryptographic standards, or PQC initiatives. Direct implementation experience is a plus, but not required.
- Strong programming in C and / or C++ and Python; willing and able to contribute Go code to integrate with the edge and collector services.
- Familiarity with crypto libraries (OpenSSL, BoringSSL, liboqs) at the API and operational level.
- Comfortable working inside a product engineering team — not only as a consultant or auditor. You will be in standups, code reviews, and design sessions.
- Strong written communication; you will produce the artifacts that IonQ leadership and customer security teams read.
- Experience working with telemetry sources such as SNMP, Syslog, NETCONF, APIs, and device CLIs.
- networking across load-balancers and/or websocket
- running production workloads in Kubernetes at scale
- containerized distributed systems
- Helm charts
- Customer-facing experience with federal or regulated-industry buyers.
- Prior exposure to AIOps or security platform products (Marvis, Splunk-class, XDR, SIEM).
- Contributor to relevant NIST, IETF, or ETSI working groups (PQC, MACsec, QKD).
- US security clearance eligibility (see Clearance Posture section in the Team Package).
- Translate NIST guidance (SP 800-series, PQC standards, FIPS profiles, crypto-agility frameworks) into device-level signals, thresholds, and policy values that the platform can act on.
- Define the L1–L3 monitoring posture: what we collect, what good and bad look like, what we alert on, and what we keep for evidence.
- Own the integration points between the Edge collector and QKD / PQC subsystems — key-rotation flows, key-material handling, attestation, and the failure modes that come with novel crypto.
- Write and maintain the runbooks: detection logic, response actions, evidence trails, customer-facing compliance posture.
- Pair tightly with the ML Anomaly Detection engineer on what is and is not a real anomaly, and with the Agentic AI engineer on how the agent is allowed to act on signals.
- Sit on the boundary between Svitla and IonQ Product: bring crypto and quantum-protocol questions back to IonQ's specialists, and bring their answers into the build team without losing fidelity.
- Be hands-on: you write code in C / C++ and Python today, and you are willing to write Go to integrate with the collector and edge platform team's stack.
- US and EU projects based on advanced technologies.
- Competitive compensation based on skills and experience.
- Annual performance appraisals.
- Remote-friendly culture and no micromanagement.
- Comprehensive private medical insurance.
- Christmas Bonus in the amount of 50% of the monthly payment.
- Bonuses for article writing, public talks, other activities.
- 15 vacation days, 10 holidays, 10 sick leaves.
- Personalized learning program tailored to your interests and skill development.
- Free tech webinars and meetups organized by Svitla.
- Fun corporate online\offline celebrations and activities.
- Awesome team, friendly and supportive community!
