About the Employer:
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is an operational arm of the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, and is currently comprised of 3 Directorates: Technology, Operations and Resilience/Compliance.
It is responsible for leading in the management of major cyber security incidents across government, providing guidance and advice to citizens and businesses on major cyber security incidents, and developing strong international relationships in the global cyber security community for the purposes of information sharing. The NCSC also has responsibility for advising and informing Government IT and Critical National Infrastructure providers of current threats and vulnerabilities associated with network and information security.
About the Role:
The NCSC has a number of vacancies for Cyber Security Responders across its Directorates. Cyber Security Responders will play a key part in a technologically complex and rapidly growing organisation with an existing set of dynamic and agile teams and established processes and services.
Role 1 – Cyber Security Responder (Technology)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The main areas of involvement for a Cyber Security Responder (Technology) include:
- Supporting the NCSC in their mission of providing National Cyber Defence Solutions and Services to the state.
- Supporting the implementation of operational requirements stemming from national and EU-level cyber resilience regulations, translating regulatory requirements into actionable operational procedures, control and workflows.
- Working with internal and external stakeholders at national, EU and international level to ensure consistent application of operational resilience measures.
- Operating and maintaining early warning services based on open-source solutions for the collection and processing of security feeds and performing analysis, enrichment and distribution of actionable intelligence to relevant stakeholders.
- Assisting in the development of data analytics capabilities to provide actionable insights and support decision making.
- Assisting in the monitoring, assessment and analysis of emerging vulnerabilities and cyber threats at a national level, providing reports to relevant organisations where applicable.
- Supporting the operation, coordination and continuous improvement of national Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure (CVD) processes.
- Supporting vendor and technology selection, procurement, and project management processes to ensure value for money and alignment with organisational goals.
- Supporting the national cyber incident response process.
- Supporting national, EU and international activities, including cyber exercises.
- Managing individual and/or team performance and development if required.
Role 2 – Cyber Security Responder (Operations)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- The main areas of involvement for a Cyber Security Responder (Operations) include:
- Operating the NCSC’s cyber security incident response function and associated threat intelligence platforms.
- Preparing for, responding to and investigating national cyber security incidents.
- Malware analysis & technical report writing.
- Assisting in co-ordinating national, EU and international activities, including cyber exercises.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with national, EU and international peers and stakeholders to support information sharing and best practice.
- Managing individual and/or team performance and development if required.
Role 3 - Cyber Security Responder (Resilience/Compliance)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The main areas of involvement for a Cyber Security Responder (Resilience/Compliance) may include:
- Assisting in the development of processes and procedures for the implementation of cyber security policy in Ireland, including NIS2 and certification.
- Supporting resilience building, information sharing and compliance activities in line with EU and national requirements.
- Actively participating in cyber security working groups, both nationally and internationally, to develop guidelines, best practice and new legislation.
- Engaging externally on cybersecurity awareness raising activities with a broad range of stakeholders across Government, academia and industry, including critical infrastructure.
- Conducting evidence and data-based risk assessment of strategic level threats & advising senior decision makers on appropriate responses.
- Assisting in the development of the National Cybersecurity Coordination and Development Centre, Ireland (NCC-IE) involving industry engagement, formulation of research, innovation and deployment of financial support programme.
- Supporting the implementation of National and European cybersecurity certification schemes.
- Assessing compliance with the security measures required of those entities qualifying under the NIS2 Directive, facilitating audits where appropriate.
- Managing individual and/or team performance and development if required.
About You:
Role 1 – Cyber Security Responder (Technology)
Candidates must have on or before 16th July 2026:
- A minimum of one years’ recent (in the last 3 years) relevant experience* of working in Cyber Security, or product ownership or technical program delivery or Data Science;
- Experience of working with cyber security tooling and technology such as, Vulnerability Management, attack surface management tools, vulnerability scanners and/or threat intelligence platforms;
- Good technical research skills with the ability to extract, analyse and work with data from a variety of sources and security tools;
- A proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues and mitigate risks in contemporary IT systems;
- An understanding of IT system administration, network architecture and/or database management;
- A proven track record of achieving results and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and present information in clear and concise language to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven capacity to effectively engage, collaborate and foster positive working relationships with both colleagues and external stakeholders;
- Motivation and commitment to delivering high quality customer service;
- An ongoing commitment to continuous professional development and innovation.
Role 2 – Cyber Security Responder (Operations)
Candidates must have on or before 16th July 2026:
- A minimum of one years’ recent (in the last 3 years) relevant experience* of working in Cyber Security or Information Technology;
- A good understanding of cyber security incident response tools, Cyber threat intelligence (CTI), Digital Forensics, Network Investigations, IT system administration, malware analysis and open source intelligence (OSINT);
- Experience of cyber incident response, IT security operations and/or technical report writing;
- A proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues and mitigate risks in contemporary IT systems;
- A proven track record of achieving results and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and present information in clear and concise language to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven capacity to effectively engage, collaborate and foster positive working relationships with both colleagues and external stakeholders;
- Motivation and commitment to delivering high quality customer service;
- An ongoing commitment to continuous professional development and innovation.
Role 3 - Cyber Security Responder (Resilience/Compliance)
Essential
Candidates must have on or before 16th July 2026:
- A minimum of one years’ recent experience (in the last 3 years) of working in Cyber Security, Compliance/Audit, Risk Management or Public Policy;
- Recent experience (in the last 5 years’) in implementing policies, strategies and/or managing projects in cyber, risk or related areas;
- A proven track record of achieving results and an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and present information in clear and concise language to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven capacity to effectively engage, collaborate and foster positive working relationships with both colleagues and external stakeholders;
- Motivation and commitment to delivering high quality customer service;
- An ongoing commitment to continuous professional development and innovation.
