Job Overview
The Application Engineer – Pump Application will support the selection, application, and technical evaluation of pumps and pumping systems. This role is primarily focused on pre-order engineering activities, including RFQ analysis, pump selection, and proposal preparation, while working under the guidance of senior engineers and sales teams. The position serves as a key technical interface between customers, sales, and internal project and engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: -
- Technical Evaluation: Review RFQs, process data sheets, and P&IDs to understand cryogenic fluid handling requirements and operating conditions.
- Pump Selection & Sizing: Perform basic hydraulic calculations and assist in selecting appropriate cryogenic pump technologies, materials, and sealing systems under guidance.
- Proposal Support: Prepare technical proposals including datasheets, performance curves, and auxiliary systems (e.g., seal systems, lube systems) in coordination with senior engineers.
- Costing & Quotations: Support development of cost estimates, pricing, and delivery schedules aligned with technical selections and customer requirements.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work with design, manufacturing, procurement, and global product teams to support development of customized pump solutions meeting customers’ requirements.
- Customer Interaction: Support technical discussions with customers and EPC contractors to clarify requirements and ensure alignment with proposed solutions.
- Execution Handover: Assist in transferring proposal details to project execution teams after order award.
- Field Support (as needed): Participate in installation support, cool-down, commissioning, and basic troubleshooting activities such as vapor lock or performance deviations.
- Safety & Compliance: Apply cryogenic safety principles, including safe handling of LN2, LOX, LNG, and LH2 systems, and adhere to relevant codes and standards.
- Tools & Process Improvement: Contribute to development and improvement of application engineering tools, templates, and processes.
- Timely response to RFQs and customer inquiries
- Accuracy and completeness of technical selections and costing inputs
- Adherence to target margins under guidance
- Quality and completeness of technical documentation
- Effective coordination with global product teams and internal stakeholders
- Responsible for assigned tasks and deliverables with guidance from management and sales.
- Accountable for accuracy and completeness of technical and commercial inputs within defined scope.
- Individual contributor role with high collaboration across engineering, sales, and global teams.
- Office-based role with regular use of engineering, quoting, and business software tools
- Occasional travel for customer meetings, site visits, or commissioning support
Qualifications
Qualifications & Requirements: -
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in pump systems, rotating equipment, or fluid systems.
- Industry Focus: Direct experience with cryogenic liquids (LN2, LOX, LNG, LH2) is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of fluid dynamics, Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH) and pump fundamentals, boil-off gas handling, and insulation systems.
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with industry standards such as API 610, ASME B31.3, and specific cryogenic safety codes.
- Software: Proficiency with Pump selection tools, CRM/ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Salesforce) preferred.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Collaboration: Ability to work both independently and within cross-functional and global teams.
- Work Style: Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple inquiries simultaneously.
- Travel: Willingness to travel on a limited basis for project or customer support.
