Job Overview
The Application Engineer – CMP/MP will support the selection, application, and technical evaluation of pumps and pumping systems. This role is primarily focused on pre-order engineering activities, including RFQ analysis, pump selection, and proposal preparation, while working under the guidance of senior engineers and sales teams. The position serves as a key technical interface between customers, sales, and internal project and engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Evaluation: Review RFQs, project specifications, and customer requirements to understand application needs and operating conditions.
- Pump Selection & Sizing: Perform technical selection and scope definition for centrifugal and API-compliant pump systems based on customer specifications.
- Proposal Support: Prepare technical proposals including datasheets, performance curves, and auxiliary systems (e.g., seal systems, lube systems) in coordination with senior engineers.
- Costing & Quotations: Support development of cost estimates, pricing, and delivery schedules aligned with technical selections and customer requirements.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with internal departments, suppliers, and global teams to support proposal development and address application-specific requirements.
- Customer Interaction: Assist in responding to technical queries, clarifications, and pre-award discussions with customers and EPC contractors.
- Order Review & Handover: Review customer purchase orders for alignment with quoted scope and assist in transferring technical documentation to project management teams.
- Post-Order Support (as needed): Provide limited technical support during project execution as required.
- Tools & Process Improvement: Contribute to development and improvement of application engineering tools, templates, and processes.
- Timely response to RFQs and customer inquiries
- Accuracy and completeness of technical selections and costing inputs
- Adherence to target margins under guidance
- Quality and completeness of technical documentation
- Effective coordination with global product teams and internal stakeholde r.
- Responsible for assigned tasks and deliverables with guidance from management and sales.
- Accountable for accuracy and completeness of technical and commercial inputs within defined scope
- Individual contributor role with strong cross-functional collaboration.
- Office-based role with regular use of engineering, quoting, and business systems.
- Occasional travel for customer meetings and sales support.
Qualifications .
- Education, Experience and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field requiredExperience: 2 to 6 years’ relevant professional experience is required
- Industry focus: Direct experience with canned motor pumps and metering pumps is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of centrifugal and reciprocating pumps, hydraulic principles and system design.
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with API 685 and related standards API / ASME.
- Software: Proficiency with Pump selection tools, CRM/ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Salesforce) preferred.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Collaboration: Ability to work both independently and within cross-functional and global teams.
- Work Style: Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple inquiries simultaneously.
- Travel: Willingness to travel on a limited basis to support sales and customer engagement.
