Location: U.S. East Coast (Hybrid Options Available)

Compensation: ~$129K

About the Organization

Our client is a long‑established global communications‑technology manufacturer specializing in advanced fiber‑optic systems. For decades, their engineering teams have supported the design, production, and deployment of high‑reliability communication networks used by commercial enterprises, government agencies, and international infrastructure providers.

The organization values creativity, thoughtful risk‑taking, and diverse perspectives. Whether you’re an experienced engineer seeking a new challenge or early in your career and looking for a fast‑paced, innovative environment, this company offers strong long‑term stability and meaningful opportunities for growth.

Role Overview

The Software Engineer – Fiber‑Optic Systems develops and maintains software that supports complex optical communication networks. This role blends software engineering with a strong understanding of fiber‑optic system behavior, enabling the creation of reliable, secure, and scalable tools used in operational network environments.

You will work closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to design new features, diagnose system issues, and ensure software aligns with physical system characteristics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software supporting fiber‑optic communication systems, with awareness of underlying physical and optical behaviors.
  • Translate system requirements into reusable, maintainable software features delivered on schedule.
  • Implement secure software services, including RESTful and OpenConfig APIs, used in operational network environments.
  • Develop automated unit and integration tests to ensure correctness, reliability, and security.
  • Analyze existing systems to diagnose defects, performance issues, and security vulnerabilities, and implement effective solutions.
  • Support ongoing system operation through software simulation and correlation of software behavior with physical system characteristics.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to resolve issues and enhance system functionality and robustness.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline, with strong understanding of fiber‑optic communication systems and optical components.
  • Proficiency in C++, C#, SQL, and modern web technologies such as ReactJS.
  • Solid knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and object‑oriented design principles.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, Open API / OpenConfig, and Linux‑based development environments (preferably Red Hat).
  • Familiarity with automated testing practices and source‑control systems.
  • Understanding of web and application security fundamentals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in technical team environments.
