About the Role
Longview is looking for a Senior Backend AI Automation & Application Engineer to design, build, harden, and scale the internal AI, automation, and application systems that power our restoration operating companies.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone who can take business problems from ambiguity to production: designing the system, building the application or automation layer, integrating with third-party platforms, owning the database and infrastructure touchpoints, and ensuring the final product is reliable enough to support real operators in the field.
You will work directly with the Head of AI to build and operate Longview’s internal technology platform, including AI agents, workflow automations, operational applications, dashboards, integrations, and data systems.

This is not a research role. It is also not a narrow ticket-taking role. We are looking for a senior builder who can move quickly, make strong technical decisions, and create practical AI-enabled systems that improve how restoration companies operate every day.
The ideal candidate is comfortable across the full stack of internal tools: Python, APIs, databases, automation platforms, AWS, LLM integrations, application development, monitoring, and operational support.

About Longview
Longview is building the world’s first AI-powered restoration company.
We acquire and operate restoration businesses across the United States and are rebuilding how these companies operate from the ground up using automation, data systems, and artificial intelligence.
Restoration is a massive industry that still runs largely on spreadsheets, phone calls, disconnected software platforms, and manual workflows. At Longview, we are designing and deploying internal AI agents, automation systems, and operational software that allow our companies to run faster, more efficiently, and with better customer outcomes.

Our internal platform includes systems for:

  • AI call analysis and lead intake
  • Automated collections and billing workflows
  • Operational dashboards and analytics
  • AI-assisted job review and field workflow support
  • Workflow automation across multiple operating companies
  • Internal applications for sales, operations, finance, and customer experience

These systems are already running in production and actively supporting our operating teams.
Longview is backed by experienced operators and investors and is rapidly expanding through acquisitions. As we grow, our internal technology platform grows with it — and the engineers who build and maintain these systems play a critical role in that growth.
Joining Longview means working on real systems that power real businesses, not hypothetical products. You will build and operate AI and automation systems that impact thousands of jobs, millions of dollars in operations, and the future of an entire industry.

What You’ll Do

AI Automation & Agent Systems
Design, build, and operate AI-enabled systems that support core business workflows.
Examples include:

  • AI call analysis and sales coaching systems
  • AI customer service and collections workflows
  • AI job review and field operations tools
  • LLM-powered document, transcript, image, and video analysis workflows
  • Agentic workflows that combine LLMs, business logic, databases, and third-party APIs
  • Guardrails, validation layers, and escalation workflows for AI outputs
You should be able to move beyond prompt experimentation and build AI systems that are reliable, observable, and useful in production.

Application Engineering
Build internal software tools that help operators run the business more effectively.
Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and building internal web applications and operational tools
  • Creating clean interfaces for business users
  • Building backend services and APIs
  • Connecting applications to databases, AI services, and third-party systems
  • Translating operational problems into usable software
  • Improving existing tools for performance, reliability, and usability
This role requires someone who can build practical applications, not just scripts.

Automation Engineering
Design and maintain automation pipelines that connect Longview’s systems together.
You will work with tools and platforms such as:

  • AWS Lambda
  • Python
  • APIs and webhooks
  • Zapier and other automation platforms
  • Google Workspace integrations
  • Accounting, CRM, job management, and communications platforms
  • Internal data pipelines and event-driven workflows
You will be expected to know when to move fast with automation tools and when to graduate workflows into more reliable custom infrastructure.

Data Engineering & Databases
Work with the operational data that powers Longview’s internal systems.
Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and maintaining relational database structures
  • Writing and optimizing SQL queries
  • Building data integrations between internal and external systems
  • Debugging data quality issues
  • Supporting reporting, dashboards, and internal analytics
  • Creating durable data models for operational workflows
  • Ensuring AI and automation systems have clean, reliable data

Production Hardening & Reliability
Take systems from prototype to dependable production operation.
Responsibilities include:
  • Adding logging, monitoring, and alerting
  • Implementing retries, error handling, and failure recovery
  • Improving validation and guardrails
  • Building internal tools for debugging and support
  • Reducing silent failures and manual intervention
  • Improving system performance and reliability
  • Creating documentation that makes systems easier to support and scale
You will be expected to own systems after they launch, not just hand them off.

System Ownership & Operational Support
This is a production ownership role.
You will help ensure critical systems continue working after they are deployed.
Responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting broken automations and integrations
  • Investigating failures across APIs, databases, queues, and applications
  • Supporting internal teams as they adopt new tools
  • Improving onboarding and documentation
  • Identifying weak points in workflows before they become business problems
  • Partnering with operations leaders to make systems more useful over time

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Strong Python engineering skills
  • Strong SQL and relational database experience
  • Experience building production applications, internal tools, or backend services
  • Experience integrating with third-party APIs and webhooks
  • Experience with automation platforms or workflow orchestration tools
  • Experience building reliable systems with logging, monitoring, and error handling
  • Comfort working directly with business users and operational teams
  • Ability to own ambiguous problems and drive them to working production systems
  • Strong debugging and systems-thinking ability
  • Ability to balance speed, pragmatism, and technical quality

Strongly Preferred
  • Experience with AWS, especially Lambda, S3, RDS, SQS, EventBridge, or API Gateway
  • Experience building LLM-powered applications or AI agent workflows
  • Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Bedrock, or similar AI platforms
  • Experience with application frameworks such as Django, FastAPI, Flask, Node, or similar
  • Experience building internal dashboards, admin tools, or workflow applications
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, observability, or production support
  • Experience integrating with CRM, accounting, job management, communications, or field service platforms

Nice to Have
  • Experience with Zapier, Make, Retool, or similar internal tool platforms
  • Experience with data pipelines and analytics workflows
  • Experience with document processing, call transcription, computer vision, or multimodal AI
  • Experience in a high-growth, acquisition-driven, or multi-location operating company
  • Experience in restoration, home services, field services, insurance, or construction workflows

Who This Role Is Great For
This role is ideal for someone who:
  • Likes building systems that actually get used
  • Enjoys turning messy business workflows into clean software
  • Can work across applications, automation, data, and AI
  • Wants ownership, not just assigned tickets
  • Is comfortable supporting real operations where reliability matters
  • Likes using AI pragmatically to solve business problems
  • Can prototype quickly but also knows how to harden systems for production
  • Wants to help build the operating system for a growing AI-powered services company

Who This Role Is Not For
This role is probably not a fit if you are looking for:
  • A pure machine learning research role
  • A narrow frontend-only or backend-only engineering role
  • A role where requirements are always fully defined before work begins
  • A role focused only on prototypes or demos
  • A large engineering team with highly specialized responsibilities
  • A low-ownership role where systems are handed off after launch

What Success Looks Like
Within the first 6–12 months, you will:
  • Take ownership of several production AI and automation systems
  • Build new internal applications that improve core operating workflows
  • Reduce manual work across sales, operations, finance, and customer experience
  • Improve reliability, monitoring, and failure recovery across key systems
  • Help scale internal AI tools across multiple operating companies
  • Turn prototypes into durable systems used every day by real teams
  • Become a technical owner for a meaningful part of Longview’s internal platform

Why This Role Matters
Longview is using AI and automation to change how restoration companies operate.
The work you build will not sit in a demo environment. It will support real people doing real work: answering customers, collecting invoices, reviewing jobs, managing operations, and scaling acquired companies.
This is a high-impact role for a senior engineer who wants to build practical AI systems inside a real operating business.
