About Us & The Mission
SúilSiar is a fast-moving, EdTech company dedicated to transforming bilingual and underserved
language education. With over 5,000 paying subscribers across our partner schools and backed
by guaranteed multi-year government funding, our core business model is secure, highly
profitable, and rapidly scaling.
We have used Irish-medium (Gaeilge) immersion secondary schools sector as our initial test bed
to prove our scalable digital and AI solutions. While our platform is proven in the Irish market, it
is built to effectively support teaching and learning across multiple languages and curricula. As
we scale, we are preparing our technical architecture to expand into international markets and to
support additional underserved languages and additional sectors beyond education.
We are actively developing supplementary AI supports for teachers and students to support and
enhance our established platform. Leveraging externally built backend groundwork for AI-
assisted tutoring tools, we need an autonomous, product-minded engineer to take this early-
stage Proof of Concept and help us build it into robust, market-ready features for our Q2 2027
launch.
You will not be coding alone. You will be stepping into a highly collaborative ecosystem, working
directly with the founding team, our external white-label platform builders, and expert AI
engineers at a University Partner. We operate on high trust,
offering potentially flexible working hours anchored by close collaboration for those who deliver
high-quality effort and loyalty in return.
The Role:
What You Will Do
You will be SúilSiar’s first in-house developer. Your role will be focused on three high-level
strategic deliverables as well as daily maintenance and stand-up reporting:
• Leading our AI Backend Integration: You will live primarily in the Python/FastAPI
backend to integrate our new AI supports. You will focus on Prompt Engineering, API
orchestration, and optimizing the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline to
ensure the AI gives accurate, curriculum-aligned answers.
• Driving Core Platform Localisation & Innovation: You will take ownership of the UI for
our existing teaching and learning platform. Using existing React templates, you will wire
up backend logic to ensure the interface is accurately localised, fully accessible, and
delivering a seamless experience for our current users. There will be scope for
developing new solutions into the localised platform for SúilSiar.
• Preparing Primary School Expansion Architecture: You will lay the technical
groundwork and adapt our white-label platform infrastructure for our strategic expansion
into the primary school market in 2027.
About You
A track record of practical building is highly valued, as is high-level achievement in formal
education. Degrees blending technology and language (such as Trinity’s CSLL) are particularly
well-regarded, but proven competency is what matters most. Whether you are a high-potential
recent graduate or an experienced builder drawn to our Irish language mission, you are
energised by the varied responsibilities and dynamic challenges of a scaling startup
• Tech First: You are a strong Python/AI backend developer who knows how to glue APIs
together and manage a database. You have some awareness of or experience in React
(with the capacity and willingness to grow) and are comfortable leaning on UI templates
to get your frontend work done.
• Attitude Second: You are a pragmatic problem-solver who knows how to take a Proof of
Concept and turn it into a robust product. You are comfortable working autonomously,
presenting technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and bringing your own
product ideas to the table.
• Language (Bonus): While not strictly essential, an interest in or working proficiency or
fluency in Irish (Gaeilge) is a highly advantageous addition to your application. It will help
you understand UX nuances and assess AI output, though our integrated NLP scrubbing
tools handle the heavy linguistic quality control.
The Interview Process
The interview process will give us a chance to get to know you but it is essential that you also get
to know us to ensure we are a fit; we are selling our vision to you as much as you are selling your
skills to us.
The interview will be in at least two stages with an additional stage necessary depending on the process.
• Céad Agallamh (Stage 1): An in-person, general interview based on your background,
goals and experience. We will pitch our company vision, learn about your ambitions, and
ensure it is a great cultural fit without getting overly technical.
• Dara Agallamh (Stage 2): A practical, assessed project discussion to see how you
approach real-world building and problem-solving.
