As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high-value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team, you'll contribute your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and work on high-performance, large scale distributed systems in a Linux environment.

Our Group:
The Optical Diagnostics and Control (ODC) Business Unit is a leading division within Applied Materials focused on developing advanced inspection and diagnostics solutions for semiconductor manufacturing.
We work in a dynamic, collaborative environment, combining strong technical skills with the flexibility needed to keep up with changing industry needs.
What you'll be doing:
- As a member of this core team you will initiate, design and develop SW for the next generation defect detection product.
- You will make important technical decisions and ensure scalability of our applications.
- You will create an innovative product and see it being launched.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or software engineering
- 5+ years of related experience
- Proficiency and experience in Java, Networking principles, Multi-threading
- Experience in development on Linux with Docker containers and K8s
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills
- Proven ability to design and implement complex software architectures, not just write code.
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with a team
- Leadership skills to lead small projects as needed
