Software Engineer (In-House) – Moreton Hire

About the Role

Moreton Hire is seeking a capable and hands-on Software Engineer to join our in-house technology team. This role is critical to maintaining, developing, and modernising our internal systems.

You will work closely with operations, sales, and finance teams to improve system performance, automate workflows, and support the delivery of projects across Australia’s leading events and modular infrastructure business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance internal business applications built on Progress OpenEdge
  • Support and optimise the Progress OpenEdge database, ensuring performance, integrity, and scalability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues across ERP and operational platforms
  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Integrate internal systems with external platforms (CRM, finance, logistics, etc.)
  • Identify opportunities for automation to improve efficiency across sales, operations, and project delivery
  • Maintain system documentation and ensure best-practice development standards
  • Support reporting, data extraction, and business intelligence initiatives
  • Utalise AI for business enhancement across all departments
  • Assist with general IT support when required

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer or Developer in a commercial environment
  • Ideally experience with Progress OpenEdge
  • Experience working with database design, optimisation, and maintenance
  • Understanding of ERP systems, business workflows, and operational systems
  • Experience with APIs, integrations, and modern development practices (desirable)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, project-driven environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience modernising legacy systems or migrating platforms
  • Exposure to cloud environments or hybrid infrastructure
  • Knowledge of event, construction, or logistics industries
  • Experience working with tools such as Power BI, SQL, or integration middleware
