Lead Software Engineer

We're hiring on behalf of a Haystack partner!

The Role

• Spend approximately 70% of your time on hands-on development in production code.

• Dedicate the remaining time to team leadership, including code reviews, pairing, and unblocking team members.

• Drive the establishment of team standards, processes, documentation, and a robust review culture.

• Ensure predictable delivery and high-quality output within the team.

• Support two developers transitioning to PHP backend development.

• Collaborate closely with the CTO/Architect on architecture and project direction.

What You'll Need

• Several years of production experience with a strong senior developer background.

• Proficient in at least one backend language, with a willingness to work with PHP.

• Proven ability to lead technically through mentorship and example, rather than authority.

• Desire to grow into a technical lead role; prior lead experience is a plus.

• Fluency in German (B2/C1 level) is mandatory for team collaboration.

• Experience with event-driven systems (Kafka/Redis Streams) and Linux/NixOS is beneficial.
