Senior Platform Engineer (Kubernetes)
Indexed description
We are building a self-hosted Kubernetes cluster that will serve as a multi-purpose platform for internal web services, CI runners, remote devcontainers, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments. This is not about maintaining an existing setup. It is about designing and implementing the foundation from scratch.
Your mission follows this: to design, implement, and operationalize a highly available and scalable Kubernetes cluster that is adopted by developers and actively serving at least one of its intended purposes within the first six months.
You will be part of Team Factory, which builds the internal infrastructure and tooling that engineering depends on. This is a role with real ownership, where there is room to become the key Kubernetes contributor in the company.
What You Will Do
- Design and implement a highly available, self-hosted Kubernetes cluster
- Own cluster architecture, scalability, and lifecycle management
- Build a multi-purpose cluster supporting staging, production, CI runners, and remote dev containers.
- Develop internal tooling in Python and contribute to Kubernetes-specific components in Go where relevant
- Design resource-aware workload orchestration with priority- and capability-aware queueing mechanisms.
- Expose and integrate Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) setups into the platform
You are motivated by ownership. You want to design something properly, build it, and maintain it over time. You thrive in environments where responsibility is real, and the technical bar is high. You think about how your technical decisions translate into value for real end users, and you are motivated by being part of building something that operates reliably in critical, real-world contexts where performance, correctness, and usability truly matter.
We believe the right candidate brings:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in platform, infrastructure, or backend engineering
- Strong Kubernetes experience as a power user and at cluster-architecture level, not only deploying workloads
- Experience designing and operating self-hosted or on-prem Kubernetes environments
- Solid software engineering background and mindset, with comfort in languages like Python (for internal tooling) and Go
- Strong Linux fundamentals
- Experience with Docker and GitHub Actions
- Highly efficient and structured technical communication skills, expressing decisions and trade-offs in a clear manner
- Fluent in English (Norwegian not required)
- Experience with GitHub Actions Runner Controller (ARC)
- Dynamic VLAN configuration
- OpenStack
- Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments
- Building internal developer platforms
- Bare-metal-as-a-service concepts
- On-prem infrastructure management
- Work on problems that matter
- Lead the shift in a hardware-dominated space
- Build from zero, shape the future
- Work with purpose, supported by great benefits You'll be part of a mission-driven team that values clarity, integrity, and collaboration, offering competitive pay, equity potential, strong insurance and pension plans, and ongoing learning opportunities.
- Screening interview with one of our recruiters to get to know you better (30 min).
- Meet & Greet with someone from the team to learn more about us (60 min).
- Programming assignment to be solved in your own time, followed by a technical interview more closely related to the specifics of the role (90 min).
- Final interview with our CTO and Head of People (45 min)
We consider applications continuously, so don’t hold off with applying if this looks interesting.
