Job Title: Linux Admin / Image Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Ubuntu Linux Administrator / Image Engineer to design, build, maintain, and optimize Linux-based system images and infrastructure. This role focuses on creating secure, scalable, and high-performance Ubuntu images for deployment across cloud, on-premises, and virtualized environments. The ideal candidate combines deep Linux expertise with automation, system engineering, and image lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain custom Ubuntu Linux images for various environments (cloud, VM, bare metal).
- Automate image creation and configuration using tools such as Packer, Ansible, or similar.
- Manage system provisioning, configuration, patching, and updates.
- Ensure images meet security, compliance, and hardening standards.
- Optimize system performance, boot times, and resource utilization.
- Maintain version control and documentation for image pipelines and configurations.
- Troubleshoot system-level issues related to OS, networking, storage, and performance.
- Collaborate with DevOps, Security, and Infrastructure teams to support CI/CD pipelines and deployments.
- Integrate monitoring, logging, and observability tools into system images.
- Support cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, etc.).
- Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience with Ubuntu/Linux system administration.
- Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash) and at least one programming language (Python preferred).
- Experience with image-building tools (e.g., Packer, Docker, cloud-init).
- Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, or Chef).
- Understanding of Linux security best practices (CIS benchmarks, hardening, patching).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls).
- Experience with version control systems (Git).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
- Experience with monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Understanding of virtualization and hypervisors.
- Security certifications or Linux certifications (LPIC, RHCSA/RHCE) are a plus.
