- The company -
Chirp’s mission is simple: bring relief to as many people as possible, by making things people love. Since 2015 we have specialized in highly innovative relief products you’d use every day if they existed.
We believe life’s about having a good time doing what you love, with the people you love. For us, that means skiing a powder day, adventuring with our families, and working alongside amazing people and customers.
- The role -
We're looking for a Platform Engineer to own the backend systems that power the future of Chirp. You'll design and operate the services, infrastructure, and tooling that keep our application fast, reliable, and scalable as we grow. This is a high-ownership role: you'll work across distributed systems, shape architecture, and influence how we build.
You'll partner closely with mobile, product, and data teams - you care not just about clean APIs and solid infrastructure, but about the end-user experience those systems ultimately serve, and the care that comes with handling sensitive data responsibly.
What you'll do:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services that power core product features
- Architect and scale distributed systems - making thoughtful tradeoffs around reliability, latency, and cost
- Own infrastructure on AWS (compute, storage, networking, scaling) using infrastructure-as-code and containerized workloads
- Build and improve our CI/CD pipelines to keep deploys fast and safe
- Instrument and improve observability across services - traces, metrics, and alerting
- Integrate and maintain third-party platforms
- Contribute to our internal tooling and dashboards enabling the teams operating the product
- Help define engineering standards, review code, and mentor teammates
- Drive continuous improvement of system health
What you'll bring:
- 10+ years building and operating production backend systems
- Prior experience in a staff or lead engineering role, including mentoring other engineers and influencing technical direction
- Strong proficiency with TypeScript/Node.js and widely used backend frameworks
- Solid grounding in system design and distributed systems fundamentals
- Hands-on experience with cloud and containerized deployments
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines with a general automation mindset
- Comfort with observability/monitoring tooling
- A pragmatic approach to tradeoffs, and the communication skills to explain them
Nice to have:
- Experience navigating the complexity of healthcare - regulated environments, privacy, and handling sensitive data (e.g., HIPAA, PHI, consent, data governance)
- IoT / connected-device fleet management - provisioning, OTA updates, telemetry, and operating devices at scale
- Mobile (native) experience - understanding the client side of the systems you build
- Familiarity with frontend work
This role reports to the Principal Software Engineer under the Product organization. You'll be a critical piece of a highly talented and focused team creating professional grade products, that are incredibly simple to use and help all of us Feel Good so we can Do More.
