L2 Unix/AIX Support Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and proactive L2 Unix/AIX Support Engineer to join our infrastructure operations team. The role involves supporting a predominantly Red Hat Linux along with AIX systems. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, experience in incident and change management, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Key Responsibilities:

– Perform daily operational tasks on Red Hat Linux and AIX systems.

– Monitor system performance, capacity, and health using standard tools.

– Manage filesystems, disks, users, groups, and permissions.

– Handle incidents, service requests, and problem tickets within SLA.

– Analyze system logs and alerts; perform root cause analysis.

– Apply patches and updates; manage packages and software lifecycle.

– Participate in change management: create, plan, implement, and verify changes.

– Coordinate with vendors for hardware/software issues and escalations.

– Maintain and update technical documentation and knowledge base.

– Support application teams during infrastructure upgrades and patching.

– Attend CAB meetings and provide technical input on proposed changes.

– Collaborate with L3 team for knowledge transfer and escalations.

– Participate in weekly operational reviews and customer meetings.

Requirements:

– 1–3 years of experience in Unix/Linux system administration.

– Strong knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

– Experience with IBM AIX on Power systems is a strong advantage.

– Familiarity with shell scripting is a plus.

– Understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management).

– Experience with monitoring tools and log analysis.

– Good communication skills in English (written and spoken).

– Ability to work in a 24×7 rotational shift environment if required.

– Experience with custom application support and coordination across teams.

Nice to Have:

– Experience in automation or configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible).

– Exposure to hybrid cloud environments or migration projects.

– Participation in audit and compliance reporting.

– Experience with ServiceNow CRM
