Lead Developer Experience & Infrastructure
Indexed description
What we do
Hospitals should be able to focus on patients, not administrative overhead. Damedic takes over the full hospital case billing process: our in-house medical coding experts work hand in hand with our AI-based coding platform. Together, we are shaping the coding processes of tomorrow — efficient, reliable, and with human expertise at the center.
Why we need you
AI-native processes are fundamentally changing what infrastructure means. What used to be mainly Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, and CI/CD is now also about a bigger question: How do we create a development environment where AI agents, automation, internal knowledge, and engineering processes work together securely, meaningfully, and at scale?
There is no blueprint for this transformation — and this is exactly where you come in. You take ownership and actively shape the path forward: through smart processes, sustainable standards, modern tools, and close collaboration with the teams.
What you can expect
Team play & modern Developer Experience
- Leadership on equal footing: You take on both disciplinary and functional leadership of our two-person DevEx team. You see yourself as a team player and enabler who drives engineering productivity together with the team.
- DevEx in the AI era: For you, DevEx is much more than local setup and deployments. You shape the conditions for modern engineering work: from context engineering for AI agents and standards for skills to development processes for knowledge management and the tools around it.
- Processes as enablers: You turn best practices into shared standards. You create ease of mind for developers and make the organization as a whole more effective.
- Measurable success: You measure the impact of your work through company development and direct feedback, as well as key KPIs such as our internal DevEx Index and DORA metrics.
Platform operations, evolution & automation
- Operations & cloud: You are responsible for the stable operation of our AWS/EKS landscape as well as our on-premise system.
- Incident & alert management: You optimize the first-responder process, including improvements to our DevOps assistant.
- Platform evolution: You continuously develop our infrastructure to strengthen IT security, establish best practices, and improve cost efficiency.
- Compliance & resilience: You ensure that all processes are aligned with our compliance certifications, including ISO 27001 and BSI C5.
Why us?
- Infrastructure as a growth lever: At Damedic, infrastructure is not just operations. It is a central productivity lever for engineering and product development.
- Room to shape: You actively define what Developer Experience, infrastructure, and AI-native ways of working will mean at Damedic going forward.
- Direct impact: Your work directly influences how fast, secure, and productive our engineering teams can be.
- Healthcare with purpose: Our technology helps hospitals reduce administrative workload and focus more on patient care.
- Remote with a personal touch: We work remote-first within Germany, cover the costs of home office equipment or a co-working space, meet in person regularly — and we add a Deutschlandticket on top.
A typical day at Damedic
In the morning, you analyze an overnight scaling bottleneck in the cluster: stabilize quickly, understand the root cause, and improve monitoring and architecture.
Later, you roll out an automated development setup more broadly, collect feedback from engineers, and turn a good tool into a widely used standard.
In a design session with a product team, you help reduce technical complexity and choose sensible standard components instead of custom-built solutions where appropriate.
In the afternoon, you prioritize the most important DevEx and infrastructure topics with Engineering Leads: What needs a tool? What needs a standard? What needs better documentation or enablement?
Your profile
- The foundation: You have built, operated, and further developed complex production systems.
- Developer mindset: You think like a developer. You solve problems through good tools, clear processes, and meaningful automation — you do not just manage problems, you build solutions.
- The stack: You are confident in a modern cloud landscape around AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform. You already cover parts of our extended stack, such as PostgreSQL, Airflow, Prometheus, Go, Python, Kotlin, React, GitLab, and Atlassian.
- Pragmatic AI approach: AI tools and agents are part of your standard toolkit. You enjoy experimenting, but you also know when a simple script is the more stable choice.
- Your leadership style: You provide clarity and orientation, listen actively, and help others succeed — because their success is your success.
Bonus, but not required
- Experience with ISO 27001, BSI C5, or SOC 2
- German language skills are helpful, but not required
You are a good fit if …
- you do not just want to operate infrastructure, but make engineering teams sustainably more productive;
- you can combine technical depth with enablement, communication, and pragmatism;
- you see standards as enablers that free up developers’ minds and make the organization more effective;
- you read incidents and manual workarounds as valuable signals for structural improvement.
What this role is not
This role is not a firefighting job for infrastructure problems and not a ticket loop for deployments, permissions, setups, and short-term workarounds.
Of course, you will work on operational topics. But your actual mission is different: you build structures, standards, and tools that enable engineering teams to work more independently, more securely, and more productively.
And this is not a fully built setup with a playbook sitting on the shelf. We are looking for someone who shapes, prioritizes, experiments, measures impact, and takes Developer Experience and infrastructure at Damedic to the next level.
