About Orion
Orion is a leading specialty construction company that delivers complex infrastructure projects across the United States through its Marine, Concrete, and Engineering & Consulting businesses. For nearly a century, Orion has partnered with public and private clients to build and maintain ports, bridges, marine terminals, transportation infrastructure, industrial facilities, waterfront structures, and other mission-critical projects that strengthen communities and support economic growth.
Our success is built on more than the projects we deliver. We are committed to a culture centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Teamwork, and Integrity. Whether supporting operations in the field or enabling the business through corporate functions like Information Technology, every team member plays an important role in helping Orion operate safely, efficiently, and with excellence.
About the Role
Orion is looking for an IT Infrastructure Engineer II who enjoys solving complex technology problems, strengthening reliable systems, and helping people stay connected to the tools they need to do their best work. In this role, you will help support the infrastructure that keeps our business moving, including networks, servers, cloud services, identity platforms, security tools, monitoring, backup, and collaboration technologies.
This is a hands-on role for someone who likes variety. One day you may be troubleshooting a network issue, the next you may be improving security, documenting a repeatable process, supporting a project rollout, or collaborating with teammates and vendors to resolve operational challenges.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership, communicates clearly, follows through, and brings a practical engineering mindset to infrastructure operations. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in hybrid environments, learning new technologies, improving documentation, and helping build more consistent, secure, and supportable systems.
If you are an infrastructure professional who enjoys digging into technical challenges, improving how systems operate, and contributing to a team that values Safety, Quality, Delivery, Teamwork, and Integrity, this could be an excellent opportunity.
What You'll Do
Keep Core Technology Running
- Support and improve infrastructure services through hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, remediation, and follow-through.
- Work across technologies including SD-WAN, firewalls, switches, VPN/remote access, servers, storage, Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra ID, Windows Server, VMware, monitoring, and backup platforms.
- Assist with monitoring, alerting, backup, disaster recovery readiness, and operational reliability practices to help maintain uptime and business continuity.
Help Deliver Projects and Improvements
- Support infrastructure projects through implementation, testing, documentation, coordination, and transition into production.
- Participate in upgrades, maintenance activities, and infrastructure changes while communicating status, risks, and next steps.
Strengthen Security and Reliability
- Improve infrastructure security through patching, secure access, configuration improvements, vulnerability remediation, and operational follow-up.
- Support endpoint protection, identity security, email security, alert review, and infrastructure-related incident response.
- Apply consistent documentation, standards, and change management practices to improve reliability.
Make Technology Easier to Support
- Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure performance, security, reliability, and standardization.
- Create and maintain technical documentation including diagrams, procedures, build standards, troubleshooting guides, runbooks, and change records.
- Develop PowerShell scripts, automation, and configuration templates to reduce manual effort and improve consistency.
- Partner with the Service Desk, Applications team, vendors, and business stakeholders to resolve issues and support projects.
Support Business Operations
- Participate in after-hours support as needed for critical alerts, outages, or business-impacting issues.
- Ensure incident communications, documentation, and handoffs are timely and accurate.
Broader IT Responsibilities
- Cross-train across infrastructure disciplines to reduce single points of knowledge.
- Support enterprise IT initiatives and perform other technical duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
How You Work
- You take ownership, follow through, and work independently while keeping others informed.
- You communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- You enjoy learning new technologies through research, testing, and hands-on experience.
- You document your work, pay attention to detail, and continuously look for ways to improve support processes.
Your Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience is valued.
- Technical certifications are a plus.
- 4-8 years of infrastructure experience across networking, servers, cloud, security, or virtualization.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals and secure infrastructure practices.
- Experience with SD-WAN, firewalls, switches, VPNs, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra ID, storage, and VMware or similar virtualization platforms.
- Experience using PowerShell or other scripting tools to automate routine tasks.
- Experience supporting infrastructure projects from implementation through documentation and operational handoff.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated professionalism and sound judgment when working with sensitive systems, access, and business information.

- We value Quality, Accountability, Teamwork, and Integrity in everything we do.
- We trust our IT professionals to support business-critical systems, protect sensitive information, and continuously improve the technology that enables Orion's success.
