Key Responsibilities
VMware Administration & Support
- Administer, monitor, and maintain the vSphere environment, including ESXi hosts, vCenter, clusters, datastores, and virtual networking.
- Provision, configure, and decommission virtual machines; manage templates, cloning, and VM lifecycle.
- Manage high availability and resource optimization using HA, DRS, vMotion, and Storage vMotion.
- Perform patching, upgrades, and firmware management for hosts and vCenter with minimal disruption.
- Manage storage integration (SAN/NAS, vSAN) and monitor capacity, performance, and utilization.
- Support backup, replication, and disaster recovery (e.g., Veeam, Site Recovery Manager).
- Diagnose and resolve performance, resource, and connectivity issues across the virtual estate.
- Maintain documentation, runbooks, and configuration standards.
Kubernetes Administration & Support
- Deploy, configure, upgrade, and maintain Kubernetes clusters (on-prem and/or managed — e.g., Tanzu, OpenShift, Rancher, EKS/AKS/GKE).
- Manage workloads: deployments, StatefulSets, services, ingress, ConfigMaps, and secrets.
- Administer cluster networking (CNI plugins such as Calico/Cilium), storage (CSI drivers, persistent volumes, storage classes), and RBAC.
- Implement and manage autoscaling (HPA, cluster autoscaler) and resource quotas.
- Support application teams with deployments via Helm and GitOps tooling (ArgoCD, Flux).
- Set up and maintain observability — metrics, logging, and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, EFK/ELK).
- Troubleshoot pod, node, and cluster-level issues; perform root-cause analysis on incidents.
- Apply security best practices: network policies, pod security, image scanning, and patching.
Cross-Platform & Operational
- Automate provisioning and routine operations using scripting and IaC (Bash, Python, PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform).
- Participate in incident, change, and problem management following ITIL practices.
- Respond to escalations and take part in an on-call rotation.
- Monitor infrastructure health and proactively address capacity and performance risks.
- Collaborate with security, networking, and application teams on projects and migrations.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
