Purpose - Why does this position exist
- The DevOps Engineer will play a key role in supporting the Retail Media platform as it moves through production readiness and ongoing operational support. The role will be responsible for supporting deployment activities, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, managing production releases, and ensuring the reliability and availability of data and analytics platform components.
- You will be confident working across Microsoft Azure, Azure Synapse, Power BI, Azure DevOps and related Microsoft technology stack components. You will work closely with operations, developers, data engineers, QA and business stakeholders to support production changes, troubleshoot platform issues, maintain live datasets, and ensure changes are deployed safely across Dev, QA, UAT and Production environments.
- This is a hands-on DevOps and production support role, requiring strong technical investigation, communication and stakeholder management skills. The successful candidate will bring an automation-first mindset, strong operational discipline, and the ability to support data platform changes in a reliable, controlled and proactive manner.
Accountability & Responsibilities - What you’ll be doing
- Provide DevOps and production support for the Retail Media platform, including components already in production and those transitioning into production.
- Support application, data and analytics platform changes once development has been completed and handed over into production.
- Run, maintain, troubleshoot and enhance CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and related Microsoft technology stack components.
- Support deployments and code promotion across Dev, QA, UAT and Production environments.
- Assist with release preparation, deployment execution, post-deployment validation, rollback support and production readiness checks.
- Support the operational availability of datasets and ensure data remains live, reliable and available for downstream reporting and analytics.
- Assess the production impact of new tables, datasets, stored procedures or changes to existing data structures.
- Investigate and triage deployment, pipeline, infrastructure, application, SQL and data-related production issues.
- Monitor platform processes, deployment pipelines, logs, data flows and operational health to identify failures, risks or performance issues.
- Work closely with operations, developers, data engineers, QA, project teams and wider IT teams to support production changes and issue resolution.
- Provide proactive, clear and timely updates to stakeholders on deployment status, production issues, risks, actions and resolution timelines.
- Promote continuous improvement in quality, automation, release reliability and operational delivery output.
- Provide realistic estimates for assigned DevOps, release support, troubleshooting and operational tasks.
- Actively participate in Daily Stand Ups, Sprint Planning, Backlog Grooming, Release Planning, Demos/Reviews and Retrospectives.
Knowledge, including technical knowledge and qualifications - What you’ll bring
- 7+ years demonstrated experience in DevOps, platform engineering, cloud operations, release engineering or production support roles.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft technology stack environments.
- Working knowledge of Azure Synapse and data platform operations.
- Strong SQL knowledge, including the ability to investigate data issues and review stored procedure changes.
- Working knowledge of Unix / Linux for operational support, log review and troubleshooting.
- Experience with monitoring, logging and alerting tools to support platform reliability and operational performance.
- Awareness of Power BI deployment and production support considerations.
- Basic awareness of Microsoft Fabric is desirable, particularly where platforms may transition from Synapse to Fabric in future.
- Basic scripting or coding capability to support automation, troubleshooting and technical investigation.
- Exposure to .NET application support is desirable.
- Experience with containerisation and cloud-native architectures is desirable.
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
