Role Overview
We are seeking a Medior System Administrator with strong FreeBSD expertise to join our engineering team. You will be responsible for managing, supporting, and optimizing customer and internal infrastructure, with a particular focus on FreeBSD and ZFS-based systems. This role requires hands-on technical skills, proactive troubleshooting, and the ability to work closely with senior engineers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain FreeBSD servers across customer and internal environments.
- Build, update, create, and repair FreeBSD ports and packages
- Manage ZFS storage systems (snapshots, replication, tuning, troubleshooting).
- Support virtualization platforms (e.g., bhyve, Proxmox, KVM) where integrated with FreeBSD/ZFS.
- Implement and monitor system performance, availability, and security.
- Support customer deployments, escalations, and incident response.
- Automate routine tasks with scripting (e.g., shell, Python, Ansible).
- Document procedures, configurations, and best practices.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on system design, architecture, and upgrades.
- 3–5 years of experience as a System Administrator or similar role.
- Solid hands-on experience with FreeBSD (installation, configuration, jails, networking).
- Experience packaging software and resolving compiler errors
- Strong knowledge of ZFS administration (snapshots, replication, scrub, tuning).
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, firewalls, routing, VPNs).
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus, Zabbix).
- Basic automation/scripting skills (shell, Python, Ansible).
- Comfortable working in a remote, distributed team.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Experience contributing to FreeBSD or OpenZFS community projects.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Podman) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Experience with high-availability clusters and large-scale storage deployments.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines.
