Linux Engineer

One of our close clients in the quantitative trading domain is looking for a Linux Engineer to join their NYC team, building out a space there on a relatively greenfield basis. You'd have a high level of ownership, work on exciting, fast paced and state-of-the-art Linux Systems builds and work alongside some of the smartest minds in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Management: Build, provision, and maintain bare-metal Linux servers from hardware through to the OS layer.
• Storage Administration: Configure and manage enterprise storage platforms, specifically utilizing ZFS.
• Automation & Scripting: Standardize provisioning, configuration, and operations using Ansible and Bash.
• Operations & Maintenance: Monitor system health, execute patching/upgrades, troubleshoot performance issues, and maintain documentation.
• Data Center Operations: Handle physical hardware operations, including racking, cabling, and component replacement. Participate in periodic data center travel and an on-call rotation.

Requirements

• Experience: 3+ years managing Linux systems in a production setting, ideally managing physical servers at scale (100+ nodes).
• Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of Linux internals on bare metal, Ansible (required), and Bash scripting.
• Storage Expertise: Direct, hands-on experience with ZFS; familiarity with enterprise storage hardware (NetApp, Dell, or similar).
• Execution: Strong operational discipline with a focus on uptime, precision, and root-cause analysis.
• Logistics: Ability to perform physical hardware work, travel to data centers as required, and join an on-call rotation.
