Platform Engineer
Indexed description
We're on the lookout for a mid-level Platform Engineer to join our Network Strategy and Architecture team based in Sydney. In this role, you'll help build, enhance, and operate our hybrid-cloud developer platform — working with cutting-edge tools like GitLab, HashiCorp Vault, Ansible Automation Platform, Terraform, Pulumi, and Kubernetes clusters (Rancher and OpenShift). If you're someone who loves automating the boring stuff and making developers' lives easier, this one's for you.
What You'll Do
- Administer and operate GitLab, including CI pipelines, runners, and integrations
- Support Vault operations — auth methods, policies, secret engines, and workload integrations
- Manage day-to-day automation tasks using Ansible Tower/AWX, including playbooks and job templates
- Maintain cloud-native infrastructure across Kubernetes clusters and supporting components
- Develop and maintain Terraform/Pulumi modules and infrastructure deployments
- Contribute to GitOps workflows using Argo CD or similar tools
- Apply platform security practices including secrets hygiene, RBAC, and image scanning
- Support monitoring, alerting, and SLO tracking for platform components
- Manage and operate object storage solutions (e.g., MinIO) for platform services
- Create and maintain platform documentation, runbooks, and operational guides
- Participate in incident response and on-call rotation for platform components
- Provide technical support to product teams onboarding to the platform
- Collaborate with Senior Engineers to implement improvements and reduce toil
- Solid hands-on experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles with at least 4+ years of experience
- Solid experience with GitLab CI/CD — pipelines, runners, and YAML configuration
- Practical knowledge of HashiCorp Vault (policies, engines, auth methods) and automation using Ansible
- Strong understanding of Terraform and/or Pulumi for IaC delivery
- Exposure to Kubernetes (deployments, Helm/Kustomize, troubleshooting basics)
- Familiarity with GitOps concepts and tools (Argo CD or Flux)
- Scripting skills in Bash, Python, or TypeScript
- Experience contributing to technical documentation, runbooks, and platform guides
- A problem-solving mindset with a curiosity to dig into complex systems
- Great communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with developers
- Experience with hybrid cloud environments (Azure, AWS, on-prem VMware)
- Familiarity with observability and log management systems (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, OpenTelemetry)
- Exposure to AI/ML frameworks (LangChain, PyTorch) or workflow orchestration tools (N8N, Temporal) highly valued
- Experience with object storage platforms (MinIO or equivalent)
