Lead Software Engineer - Fitpage & India Running
Indexed description
Mumbai (On-site) • 6–9 years • Engineering / Product Technology • Full-time
About Us
Fitpage and India Running are part of Saransh Ventures Pvt. Ltd., a fast-growing platform at the
intersection of fitness, wellness, and running culture in India. Fitpage builds content, training, and
nutrition programs that help people improve their cardiovascular fitness, while India Running operates
the country’s largest marketplace for running events — powering registrations and a full suite of services
for event organisers nationwide.
Alongside a portfolio of brands and events — including Wesness, Ascend, Captured, and partnerships with
global names like New Balance — we ship consumer products used by a fast-growing community of
runners and fitness enthusiasts. We’re a lean, fast-moving team where engineers own what they build
and see its impact directly.
The Role
We’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer to set the technical bar across Fitpage and India Running. This
is a hands-on technical leadership role: you’ll own the architecture and quality of major parts of our web
and backend platform, lead the design and delivery of complex features end-to-end, and multiply the
team through mentorship, design reviews, and rigorous code review.
You’ll stay one of the strongest builders in the room. This role leads through technical depth and influence
rather than headcount — working shoulder-to-shoulder with the Engineering Manager, product, design,
and founders to ship fast without compromising on quality.
What You’ll Do
• Own the architecture and technical direction for major product areas across Fitpage and India
Running, spanning React/Next.js front-ends and Nest.js/Node.js services.
• Lead the design and delivery of complex, high-performance features end-to-end — from data model
to API to responsive UI, using SSR/SSG where it counts.
• Make and document the hard architectural calls: service boundaries, data modelling, API contracts,
and scalability and cost-performance trade-offs on AWS.
• Set and enforce engineering standards — code quality, testing, security, performance, and
observability — and hold the bar through design and code review.
• Act as technical lead on cross-functional initiatives, turning ambiguous requirements into clear,
sequenced, shippable milestones with product and design.
• Design secure, scalable APIs and robust authentication/authorization (JWT/OAuth2) across services.
• Own reliability and maintainability: testing strategy, CI/CD, incident response, and keeping technical
debt in check as we scale.
• Grow the engineers around you through mentorship, pairing, and technical feedback — and help raise
the team’s bar through technical interviews and hiring.
What We’re Looking For
• 6–9 years of software engineering experience, with a strong track record of building and shipping full-
stack products.
• Deep, hands-on expertise across the stack: JavaScript and TypeScript, React and Next.js (SSR/SSG),
and Node.js/Nest.js.
• Strong relational data modelling and query optimisation in Postgres — schema design, indexing, and
performance; working knowledge of MongoDB.
• Proven experience designing scalable, secure APIs and implementing authentication/authorization
(JWT/OAuth2).
• Solid working knowledge of AWS — deployment, infrastructure, and cost-performance trade-offs.
• A track record of owning architecture for a product or domain and leading other engineers through
design and code review.
• The judgment to balance technical depth with delivery speed in a fast-paced, resource-constrained
startup environment.
• Excellent communication — comfortable working directly with founders, product, design, and non-
technical stakeholders.
• A bias for owning outcomes, not just output.
Good to Have
• Experience with microservices or serverless architectures.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Exposure to cross-platform mobile development with Flutter — our platform spans web and mobile.
• Experience in consumer apps, fitness/wellness, or community-led products.
• Contributions to open-source projects or meaningful personal side projects.
What You’ll Get
• High ownership and autonomy — your technical decisions directly shape the product.
• Direct access to founders and leadership.
• The chance to set the engineering bar and shape technical culture as we scale.
• Work on products used by a fast-growing community of runners and fitness enthusiasts across India.
