Senior Full-Stack Engineer (front-end and/or AI-focused)

Alice makes personalized learning accessible for students and teachers using the latest in AI. More than 100,000 students have already used Alice.

In 2025 we joined Y Combinator's W25 batch in San Francisco, and we have raised over $6m to scale – including innovation fund grants on top of our seed round.

Though still small, our team punches above its weight – with backgrounds from top Comp. Sci. institutions, McKinsey, 10+ years of teaching, and even Denmark's top high school GPA.

We're building a true A-team because it's most fun to work with smart, driven people on a mission that matters.

About You

• "Pilot, not passenger" – You're intrinsically driven. There's no playbook for building Alice.tech, so we define it together. That requires ownership – both literal and figurative.
• "Engineer with a capital E" – Startups thrive by shipping fast, but without structure we crash. We need people who master the balance: speed and solid engineering. That's the heart of the role.
• AI-augmented, quality-first – We use AI extensively in our own development and operations, from sparring and prototyping to implementation and debugging. Experience with agentic dev workflows isn't required, but you should be excited to learn it. Either way, the bar doesn't move: you know what good code looks like, and you ship faster with AI without compromising the quality of what we continuously integrate.

We're looking for two types of profiles (or one who can do it all):

Front-end Focused Fullstack Profile:

• Frontend – This is a front-end heavy role, so we need you to be passionate about the frontend, and be an absolute magician in building a fantastic frontend user experience – from architecture to pixel-perfect implementation at high speed. You'll work closely with our designers, translating Figma designs and our design system into polished, production-quality UI.
• Truly Full Stack – from cloud infrastructure to web and mobile apps, and everything in between
• Cross-functional collaboration with data scientists, designers, and business stakeholders
• Tech stack: TypeScript + Vue 3 across our web app and mobile app (iOS/Android via Capacitor), sharing a common frontend package built on TanStack Query; primarily a TypeScript/tRPC backend
• Continuous improvement of our practices in contributions, testing, and deployment

• Designing, building, and scaling AI pipelines – from data ingestion and preprocessing to fine-tuning and deploying LLMs in production, primarily on our TypeScript/tRPC backend.
• Building durable AI workflows – using Temporal to reliably orchestrate long-running, nondeterministic LLM tasks.
• Developing backend services that power AI features for web and mobile products.
• Evaluating and integrating new models & APIs to stay on the frontier of LLM capabilities.
• Collaborating cross-functionally with designers, frontend engineers, and business stakeholders to build magical user experiences, powered by AI.
• Driving best practices for testing, reliability, observability, and deployment of AI systems at scale.
• Selectively perform fullstack – we’re a small startup, so be ready to pull up your sleeves and help out across our TypeScript stack, backend and frontend alike.

Front-end focused fullstack profile:

• Mindset – fantastic work ethic and high ambition
• Full-stack web and mobile development, with deep expertise in a modern frontend framework (we use Vue 3, but strong React or similar experience translates well) and TypeScript
• Frontend architecture – building and maintaining shared code across web and mobile clients
• Styling – modern utility-first CSS (we use Tailwind)
• Modern ORMs (we use Drizzle) and relational database design and optimization
• Cloud experience – AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Extensive testing practice – Vitest for unit/integration tests, Playwright for e2e
• Languages – strong proficiency in TypeScript end-to-end
• Experience – 8+ years of professional software development
• Education – MSc in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent professional experience)

• Mindset – fantastic work ethic and high ambition
• Delivering highly reliable systems at scale, in production
• Building and deploying AI/ML or LLM-based systems in production
• Comfort with the intricacies of AI-powered features – nondeterministic LLM output, third-party vendor rate limiting, and long-running/async task orchestration (we use Temporal)
• Strong backend engineering skills in Node.js/TypeScript and clean software architecture
• Fine-tuning or RAG pipelines with large language models
• Working with embeddings, vector DBs, or semantic search
• Modern ORMs (we use Drizzle) and relational database design and optimization
• Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Extensive testing practice – Vitest for unit/integration tests, Playwright for e2e
• 5–10+ years of professional software development experience
• MSc in Computer Science / Engineering / Data Science (or equivalent professional experience)
