Lead Web Developer

About us
Teleprompter.com is a Budapest-based SaaS company building teleprompter applications used by creators, professionals, and businesses around the world — across iOS, Android, Mac, and web. We're a small, senior team that values ownership, clean architecture, and shipping real value over busywork.
As Lead Web Developer you own the technical direction of both products end to end — backend domain logic, the React/Inertia frontend, real-time and AI integrations, and the delivery practices that keep a small team shipping fast without breaking production. You'll write code daily, set standards, review work, and mentor.
What you'll do
- Lead architecture and implementation across Laravel 12 (PHP 8.4) backends and React 19 / Inertia.js v2 / TypeScript frontends.
- Design and evolve domain logic using a Services/Actions architecture, Eloquent, Form Requests, and typed DTOs — keeping controllers thin and business logic testable.
- Build and scale real-time features: WebSocket broadcasting (Laravel Reverb / Echo / Pusher), presence, and live messaging.
- Integrate AI features responsibly (OpenAI / laravel/ai) — prompt design, streaming, cost and latency awareness.
- Drive performance: Laravel Octane / FrankenPHP, queues and background jobs, N+1 elimination, eager loading, caching.
- Build polished, accessible UIs with Tailwind, Radix UI / shadcn, SCSS modules, and rich-text editing (Plate), with SSR where it matters.
- Implement authentication and security: Sanctum, Fortify, Socialite OAuth, Firebase 2FA, reCAPTCHA, and sound session/permission handling (spatie/laravel-permission).
- Own quality: feature and unit tests (PHPUnit / Pest), end-to-end coverage (Playwright), and CI gates (Pint, ESLint, Prettier, Husky).
- Manage observability and operations: Sentry, Telescope, structured logging, and product analytics (Mixpanel).
- Set and enforce engineering conventions; review PRs; mentor developers and raise the team's bar.
- Partner with product and design to scope work, break it into shippable slices, and make pragmatic build/buy and technical-debt trade-offs.
Must-have qualifications
- 6+ years building and operating production web applications, with 1+ year in a lead or senior-with-ownership capacity.
- Deep Laravel and modern PHP (8.x) expertise: Eloquent, queues/jobs, events/broadcasting, validation, policies/gates, the service container.
- Strong React and TypeScript skills; comfortable with an Inertia.js (or equivalent SPA-over-server-routing) model.
- Solid SQL and relational data modeling; safe, reversible migrations and indexing discipline.
- Hands-on experience with real-time systems (WebSockets/broadcasting) in production.
- A genuine testing habit — you write feature, unit, and end-to-end tests as part of normal work.
- Fluency with Tailwind CSS and component-driven UI development.
- Strong Git workflow and code-review practice; clear technical communication.
Nice-to-have
- Multi-tenant SaaS architecture (e.g. stancl/tenancy).
- AI/LLM integration experience (OpenAI, streaming, prompt and cost engineering).
- High-performance PHP runtimes (Octane, FrankenPHP, Swoole/RoadRunner).
- Auth depth: OAuth/Socialite, Fortify/Sanctum, 2FA (Firebase), reCAPTCHA.
- Mobile-adjacent work: APNs push, OAuth/2FA flows shared with native clients, offline/local storage (IndexedDB).
- Rich-text editor work (Plate/Slate or similar) and i18n (i18next).
- DevOps: Docker, Caddy, S3/Flysystem, GitHub Actions, queue workers, observability (Sentry/Telescope).
- Background in video tooling or customer-support / messaging products.
