About the Role
An opportunity has opened for a Software Architect to work across multiple engineering teams in a portfolio-level role focused on architecture, technical leadership and engineering guidance.
This is not a traditional "ivory tower" architecture position. The business is looking for someone with a strong hands-on software engineering background who still enjoys staying close to modern technology, engineering practices and delivery teams.
You'll partner closely with engineers, tech leads and product teams to help shape solutions, guide architectural decisions, improve ways of working and support the delivery of scalable backend systems. While the role is not hands-on coding day-to-day, you'll need to be technical enough to challenge ideas, contribute to solution design and provide meaningful technical direction.
The environment is working very closely within development and focused on large-scale distributed systems, integrations and transactional platforms.
This role would suit someone coming from a tech lead/principal engineer position who has been involved in multiple projects & has worked in a previous architectural capacity across portfolio level.
Skills & Experience
- Strong background as a Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead or Principal Engineer
- Experience designing and delivering scalable end-to-end architectures
- Strong AWS experience across modern cloud-native environments
- Experience working across multiple teams or large-scale platforms
- Strong understanding of backend architecture and distributed systems
- Hands on experience with Node.js and JavaScript
- Experience with Kubernetes/containerised environments
- Exposure to technologies such as Elasticsearch, Redis, Lambda, S3, Postgres and DynamoDB
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction
- Experience within transactional, ecommerce, finance or high-volume data environments highly regarded
