The Opportunity
Hitachi Energy is looking for a Site Manager to support the successful delivery of high-voltage substation and power infrastructure projects across Spain and neighbouring regions.
Combining technical expertise with site leadership, you will act as Hitachi Energy's on-site representative, overseeing subcontractors, driving health and safety performance, supporting project cost control, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
This role offers the opportunity to work on critical energy infrastructure projects while receiving specialist training on Hitachi Energy technologies and systems, including Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), within a global organisation at the forefront of the energy transition.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Coordinate and oversee day-to-day site activities across assigned projects.
- Act as Hitachi Energy's primary on-site representative, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual requirements.
- Manage and supervise subcontractors, including electrical and commissioning contractors, ensuring high standards of quality and performance.
- Verify completed works and ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and quality requirements.
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, delays, and potential issues affecting delivery.
- Provide early warning notifications to the Project Manager regarding schedule impacts, additional costs, risks, and change requirements.
- Support project financial performance through cost monitoring, estimate-to-complete (ETC) forecasting, and identification of cost-saving opportunities.
- Manage monthly subcontractor certifications and support contract administration activities.
- Take ownership of site Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) performance, working alongside HSE specialists when assigned or independently managing HSE responsibilities where required.
- Coordinate commissioning activities and support successful project handover to customers.
- Produce daily site reports and maintain accurate project records through digital reporting systems and project management tools.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Hitachi Energy standards, customer expectations, and applicable regulations.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Your Background
- 2-5 years of experience in site management, construction supervision, commissioning, or project delivery within the power, utilities, EPC, or electrical infrastructure sector.
- Technical electrical knowledge and experience working on substations, high-voltage equipment, power transmission, power distribution, or related energy infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating site-based construction activities.
- Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements within construction, industrial, or energy environments.
- Experience with project reporting, contractor management, cost tracking, contractor certifications, and schedule monitoring.
- Financial awareness, including estimate-to-complete forecasting, cost control, risk identification, and budget monitoring.
- Comfortable using digital reporting systems, project management tools, and adapting to new technologies and processes.
- Fluency in both Spanish and English.
- Willingness to travel frequently across Spain and internationally when required.
- EU citizenship or the legal right to work within Europe.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within EPC, utilities, transmission & distribution, renewable energy, or power infrastructure projects.
- Commissioning experience.
- Knowledge of GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) equipment.
- French language skills.
- Experience supporting offshore wind, grid infrastructure, or electrical transmission projects.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a technically capable and hands-on professional who enjoys being close to project execution and site operations. The successful candidate will combine electrical knowledge with strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
You will be comfortable managing multiple subcontractors, coordinating stakeholders, maintaining high safety standards, and supporting both the technical and commercial aspects of project delivery. Most importantly, you'll be eager to learn, develop specialist expertise, and build a long-term career within Hitachi Energy.
