The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting secure, enterprise‑grade web and backend solutions that enable MetLife’s digital platforms across the United States. In this role, you will build high‑quality software using Java and modern front‑end frameworks, leverage generative AI and DevSecOps practices to improve development efficiency and security, and collaborate within agile, cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support enterprise‑caliber web and backend solutions using Java, Angular, and ReactJS within modern, cloud‑based applications.
- Create and enhance major application features and components, ensuring code quality, performance, and security standards are met.
- Implement and modernize Java‑based solutions on legacy platforms, identifying opportunities for platform and architecture improvements.
- Ensure secure, reliable software delivery through the use of DevSecOps best practices and the application of generative AI where appropriate.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and cross‑functional agile teams, actively participating in ceremonies while supporting production incidents and service requests.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 4+ years of experience in application design, coding, testing, and troubleshooting, with 3+ years developing applications in Java.
- 2+ years of experience developing applications using a modern JavaScript framework, like Angular, and ReactJS.
- 2+ years of experience developing RESTful APIs.
- 1+ years of experience with DevOps practices.
- 1+ years of experience with Cloud native applications deployed to Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, (CI/CD, release management, automation) using Azure DevOps, experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- 2+ years of experience with Git-based repositories (GitHub, Bitbucket, Azure Repos).
- 1+ years of experience in Microsoft Azure tools and modern AI concepts (generative AI, machine learning, large language models, conversational AI).
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
