Fullstack Software Engineer (gn)
Indexed description
As a Fullstack Software Engineer (gn), you will help build and evolve software capabilities that enable Unite to turn complex business, customer, and operational data into reliable technical flows, automation, and customer-facing functionality.
You will work in a mixed technology landscape: modern backend services, legacy Java systems, React-based frontend applications, GraphQL integrations, microfrontends, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS-based infrastructure.
You will work with the team to not only deliver features, but to make systems easier to understand, safer to change, and more sustainable to operate.
Your role
- Own the backend: You will design, implement, test, and maintain Java-based backend services, working with both modern and legacy Java systems.
- Leave your mark on the frontend: You will work on React-based frontend applications, GraphQL integrations, microfrontends, and automated UI testing with Playwright.
- Modernise existing systems pragmatically: You will help us improve maintainability, testability, API boundaries, and system decoupling without breaking business-critical flows.
- Build software with production in mind: You will do more than writing code. You will help us build the infrastructure around it too. You will contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code, cloud deployment, and the monitoring that tells us when something needs attention.
- Bridge teams, not just systems: You will be part of a broader engineering community - working closely with architecture, platform, operations, and neighbouring engineering teams to clarify requirements and deliver sustainable solutions.
- Use modern engineering practices responsibly: You will be encouraged to use AI-assisted engineering tools while keeping quality, security, and ownership clear.
- You have strong Java backend experience: You are confident designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining Java applications, ideally with Spring Boot or comparable frameworks.
- You can contribute across the frontend: You have practical experience with React or comparable frontend technologies. Experience with GraphQL, microfrontends or Playwright is a plus.
- You are comfortable with mixed system landscapes: You can work pragmatically with legacy code and modern services. You do not need perfect greenfield conditions to create value.
- You think in systems, not only tickets: You care as much about clean APIs and clear domain boundaries as you do about the feature shipping. Maintainability, security, and observability aren't afterthoughts for you; they're part of how you define done.
- You understand delivery engineering: You are passionate about CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps culture and infrastructure-as-code principles. Experience with AWS and Terraform is a plus.
- You're a true team player: You communicate clearly, challenge assumptions constructively, support teammates, and help turn ambiguous requirements into working software.
- You never stop learning: You are curious about new tools and engineering practices, including responsible use of AI in software development.
- Autonomy and ownership: You will be part of an agile engineering team with room to shape solutions, improve systems, and contribute to ideas.
- An office you'll enjoy coming to: Our office facilities are modern and ergonomic, public transport connections are excellent, and the on-site cafeteria serves freshly prepared meals every day – with a subsidy from us included. Hybrid working is also possible.
- Learning time: You can invest an average of 10% of your working time into self-education and professional development.
- A broad technology landscape: You will work with a rich and evolving ecosystem including Java, Spring Boot, React, GraphQL, AWS, GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, and modern engineering practices.
- A team that values sustainable engineering: We care about building software that lasts: code others can build on, knowledge that gets shared, feedback that actually lands, and a way of working we never stop improving - together.
- We offer workations for new possibilities: You can work abroad for up to 2 months, which is a great way to extend your time away or visit your family and friends in other countries.
- We care about work-life balance: We offer flexible working hours and 30+ holidays so you can strike a good balance between your work and personal life.
