iOS Engineer (Mid-Level, with Kotlin Multiplatform touchpoints)
About Arbrea Labs
Arbrea Labs is an ETH spin-off from the Computer Graphics Lab at ETH Zurich. We are a team of specialists in computer graphics, computer vision, physically based simulation, and artificial intelligence, building state-of-the-art AI, AR, and 3D tools for medical aesthetics and plastic surgery.
Our software lets surgeons and aesthetic doctors capture a patient with an iPad or iPhone and, in well under two minutes, generate a digital human avatar to pre-visualize potential outcomes for breast, facial, and body procedures — improving communication, trust, and patient satisfaction. Our products, including the Arbrea Suite, Arbrea Breast, Arbrea Face, Arbrea Body, and myArbrea, are used by leading clinics worldwide, and our new Arbrea 3.0 release brings them together into one seamless ecosystem.
Backed by world-class talent from ETH Zurich and Disney Research and supported by Innosuisse and Venturelab, we are looking to expand our team with key people who have strong technical skills and a real drive to learn and get involved in a start-up environment. We consider full-time candidates as well as interns who may transition fully into the team.
About The Role
As a mid-level iOS Engineer at Arbrea Labs, you will build and ship the apps that *are* our product. Our iPad and iPhone applications are where surgeons capture patients, generate digital human avatars, and walk through AR and 3D simulations of potential outcomes — so the quality, speed, and feel of the iOS experience is central to everything we do.
You will own features end-to-end: designing them, building them in Swift, and shipping them to clinics worldwide. You’ll work closely with our 3D, simulation, and AI teams to bring research onto the device in real time, and with the wider mobile team to share business logic across platforms using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) — so a single, well-tested core powers both our iOS and Android experiences. This is a hands-on role with room to grow: enough ownership to make a real mark, with friendly, experienced colleagues happy to offer guidance and a beer (or two) at our regular team events. The environment is flexible, with offices in a leading technology hub, attractive salaries, and employee participation plans.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and ship features for our iPad and iPhone apps in Swift, owning them end-to-end from concept through App Store release and post-launch iteration.
- Translate research from our 3D, simulation, and AI teams into smooth, real-time on-device experiences — capture flows, AR visualization, and interactive outcome simulations that clinicians rely on during live consultations.
- Contribute to a shared Kotlin Multiplatform layer, helping move networking, data, and domain logic into a common core so iOS and Android stay consistent and well-tested.
- Care for performance and reliability on real devices: profiling, reducing latency, and keeping the experience fluid even under heavy 3D and camera workloads.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code, and take part in code reviews to keep the bar high across the mobile team.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and backend colleagues to scope features, weigh trade-offs, and turn rough ideas into reliable releases.
- Help maintain and improve the mobile toolchain — CI/CD, automated testing, and the release process — so the team can ship quickly and safely.
- Keep an eye on the quality and security expectations that come with handling sensitive patient data, building privacy and robustness from the start.
- Strong Bachelor/Master in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Around 3+ years of professional iOS development, with apps you’ve shipped to the App Store
- Strong Swift skills and solid software engineering fundamentals, with good problem-solving instincts and an eye for clean, maintainable code
- Comfortable working across the stack of a mobile app and curious to pick up Kotlin Multiplatform
- Willing to take ownership and be part of a rapidly growing venture
- Proficient in English
- Swift with SwiftUI and/or UIKit, and modern concurrency (async/await, Combine)
- Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) experience — sharing networking, data, and domain logic across iOS and Android — or solid Kotlin/Android exposure and a strong will to learn KMP
- On-device frameworks relevant to our product: ARKit / RealityKit, Metal, Core ML, AVFoundation, and the camera/capture pipeline
- Clean app architecture (MVVM, Clean Architecture), dependency injection, and a healthy testing habit
- Mobile CI/CD and release tooling (Fastlane, Xcode Cloud) and familiarity with the App Store review and release process
- Performance profiling and optimization for smooth, real-time experiences on device
- Exposure to 3D / graphics, rendering, or running ML models on mobile is a plus
- Comfortable with Git and collaborative code review
- Opportunity to work on groundbreaking AI products used globally.
- Flexible working environment.
- International and highly skilled team.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
