Role Description This is a full-time Senior Back End Developer role based in Bangkok City, Thailand, with a hybrid work arrangement that allows some work from home. Most senior backend jobs hand you a ticket queue. This one hands you a service to own and a real path to technical leadership.

What you'll do:

• Own and operate a core backend service end-to-end: design, develop, review, deploy, and monitor.
• Join the on-call rotation as a secondary responder; build and maintain runbooks and escalation paths — helping remove single-points-of-failure across the team.
• Lead performance, capacity, and reliability work where the database is the bottleneck: stored-procedure and query optimisation, transactions/locking, connection pooling, read-replica behaviour, load testing, and real-time/streaming session health.
• Design and deliver backend integrations with external partners via REST APIs and secure file/identity exchange (e.g. SSO, SFTP).
• Help evolve the architecture — including gradually moving business logic from stored procedures toward the application/service layer — to make the system easier to scale and to maintain.
• Raise engineering quality through code review, automated unit testing, static analysis, and CI/CD; mentor mid-level and junior engineers.

We are hiring a future technical leader and potential successor for senior system ownership. You will be given deliberate support and real ownership to grow toward — and ideally beyond — the level of our most senior engineers.

• Months 0–3: ramp on the codebase, own well-scoped features and production support, learn the domain fast.
• Months 3–9: co-own a core service, join the on-call rotation, lead a meaningful technical workstream.
• Year 1+: independent service ownership, mentor newer engineers, drive architecture and scaling decisions.
• Beyond: technical lead / architect — a genuine successor for critical-system ownership.

How far and how fast you go is capped only by your ability to learn and take responsibility.

What you must have to thrive here (the AI era is non-negotiable)

• A genuinely fast, self-directed learner. You close gaps in new domains, code, and tools quickly and on your own. This matters more to us than years of experience.
• AI-literate in daily practice. You already use AI coding assistants in real work — Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent — and can show how they make you faster at coding, debugging, testing, documentation, and review. If you haven't used Claude or Cursor yet, you must be eager to adopt them from day one.
• A critical verifier, not a blind copier. In healthcare, wrong output is dangerous. You validate AI-generated logic, especially anything touching patient safety, claims, or money. (We design AI in as a hybrid: AI assists; rules and human review decide.)
• An effective prompter. You break problems into extraction → normalisation → validation → decision and use AI well at each step.

Technical qualifications:

• 4–7+ years of backend engineering, strong in Java (17/21) and Spring Boot (3.x), comfortable working inside large, long-lived service applications rather than green-field microservices.
• Deep relational-database skill with MySQL/MariaDB is central to this role — writing and debugging stored procedures, transactions and locking, query optimisation and indexing, connection pooling, and read-replica/replication behaviour. A significant part of our business logic lives in the database.
• Production operations experience: on-call, incident response, and observability/APM tooling.
• Performance and load-testing experience and hands-on capacity planning.
• CI/CD and Linux deployment experience (pipeline-based builds, service management, reverse proxy / load balancers).
• Nice to have: healthcare, insurance-claims, payments, or high-availability marketplace/e-commerce experience; experience scaling or modernising a database-heavy backend; real-time messaging (SSE/WebSocket); load/performance and capacity testing; test-driven development.
