Software Specialist - Domestic Payments
Indexed description
We’re looking for a talented .NET engineer to join our Payments Engineering Team as a Software Specialist - someone who thrives in a collaborative, agile environment and enjoys building modern, resilient services at scale.
Whether you’re an experienced mid‑level engineer ready to deepen your craft, or a senior developer keen to take on more complex technical challenges, we have multiple opportunities within the team.
What You’ll Be Working On
You’ll be part of a cross‑functional squad responsible for building, modernising, and supporting critical payments services - spanning both legacy platforms and modern cloud‑native systems - as we continue our transformation towards a cloud‑first, microservices‑based architecture.
We advocate for T‑shaped teams, meaning you’ll be exposed to multiple facets of engineering - from design and development through to deployment and support, while still having a strong technical core.
We are looking for a mix of technical skills to support the following activities:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining backend services using C# and .NET
- Building scalable, secure, and resilient solutions on Microsoft Azure
- Developing and consuming RESTful APIs and event‑driven services
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines, automation, and DevOps practices
- Taking ownership of solutions from design through to production support
- Collaborating closely with engineers, testers, and product owners across the value stream
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers (where appropriate to role and experience)
- Solid backend development experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure PaaS Solutions
- Understanding of microservices architecture, REST APIs, and distributed systems
- Experience with event‑driven architectures and messaging technologies
- Working knowledge of Azure DevOps, CI/CD, version control, and automated testing
- A growth mindset with curiosity and a passion for continuous improvement
- Exposure to payments, financial services, or regulated environments
- Exposure to containerised workloads and orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes)
- Understanding of cloud networking concepts in Azure
- Knowledge of observability, resilience patterns, or performance optimisation
- Senior candidates will bring deeper experience in system design, architecture, or technical leadership
