UI Engineer - Conversational AI

Are you a front-end developer with an exceptional eye for design? Or are you a UI Designer who loves jumping into the code to see your creations come to life?

We are looking for a UI Engineer—a rare hybrid professional who sits right at the intersection of creative design and technical execution.

You will own the look, feel, and implementation of core product surfaces, including our administrative tool, chatbot interfaces, and data reporting modules.

What You’ll Do:

• Design & Build: Create high-quality front-end solutions for our core product surfaces.
• Prototype & Research: Conduct user research and rapidly build prototypes to test new features and design changes.
• Create Systems: Build reusable front-end components and apply established design systems to ensure consistency and scalability across the platform.
• Collaborate: Work closely with backend developers, delivery teams, and engineering leadership to align on technical implementation and peer reviews.
• Champion Accessibility: Support accessibility reviews and conduct basic accessibility testing (WCAG).

What You Bring:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, UI/UX Design, or a similar technical/creative discipline.
• 3+ years of commercial experience seamlessly blending product/UI design with hands-on front-end development.
• Proficiency in React.js, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Exceptional visual design judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to create clear design artefacts like wireframes and prototypes.
• Strong communication skills, a collaborative working style, and a highly pragmatic approach to problem-solving (you know how to balance visionary design with technical boundaries).

Desirable Extras:

• Familiarity with conversational AI environments.
• Hands-on experience with accessibility compliance testing practices.

Location:

This role is remote-first and home-based, but you will need to be Auckland-based (or within commuting distance) to join the team at our Ellerslie office for regular collaboration days.
