Robotics Software Engineer - Perception
Indexed description
Company Description
Want to build the autonomy that drives a real robot through the real world?
Antoniq Robotics is building embodied AI for agriculture: robots that perceive, decide and act in demanding, real-world environments. We field-test so what you build drives an actual robot in the real world environment
We're looking for a Robotics Software Engineer to take ownership of the autonomy stack end to end: from perception and state estimation, through navigation and motion control, to validation in the field.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own the localization and mapping stack that lets the robot know where it is in unstructured, GPS-degraded environments
- Build the perception layer that turns multimodal data into a reliable model of the world. That is, obstacles, free space, and the configuration space the robot has to operate in
- Design navigation and motion behaviours: planning, control, smoothing and recovery for robust, repeatable autonomy in demanding, real-world environments
- Build real-time state estimation that fuses heterogeneous sensor data under noise and uncertainty
- Keep the codebase clean, modular and testable, enabling rapid iteration between simulation and hardware
- Develop and maintain the simulation environment for end-to-end autonomy runs before they ever touch a robot
- Contribute to engineering standards: reproducible dev environments, linting, automated testing, profiling and layered system bring-up
- Spend time in the field: recurring lab and field sessions where you define objectives, run trials, log metrics and failure modes, and feed findings back into the backlog
- Collaborate with a team of driven individuals committed to building general-purpose Physical AI
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in robotics software development, and a Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Solid C++ and/or Python for real-time robotics applications
- A track record of taking autonomy from perception and state estimation, through navigation and motion control, to validation on real hardware
- Strong grasp of localization and mapping, and of sensor fusion / state estimation under real-world noise and uncertainty
- Experience with perception from range and vision sensors: filtering, segmentation, registration, and fusing data across multiple sensing modalities
- Experience with modern robotics middleware and real-time inter-process communication
- Comfortable with simulation-driven development and containerised, version-controlled engineering workflows
- A relentless commitment to data and code quality, rigorous evaluation, and meticulous attention to detail
- Exceptional ownership and initiative while finding and solving problems independently
- Proactive, comfortable debugging on a real robot in imperfect field conditions, and at home in a fast-moving startup
- Strong plus: high-precision outdoor positioning, and deep-learning-based perception, deploying control to embedded / real-time hardware
Logistics
- Candidates must have the right to work in Europe; no visa sponsorship is available.
- Hybrid / on-site working in Porto, Portugal.
