POSITION OVERVIEW:

Rajant is seeking a Software Engineer to help build, maintain, and improve software used to manage, monitor, and support our industrial wireless networking products. This role is primarily focused on Java development in a Linux-based engineering environment. The work may also involve networking concepts, scripting, SQL, time-series data, metrics, dashboards, and tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.

This is a strong fit for a sharp, practical Java developer who enjoys troubleshooting real systems and learning adjacent technologies. You don’t need experience with every tool listed in this posting. A solid Java foundation, curiosity, good debugging instincts, and a willingness to learn from peers are more important than checking every box.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, test, debug, and maintain Java-based software applications and services.
• Work with existing codebases to add features, fix defects, and improve reliability.
• Collaborate with other engineers, QA, product, and support teams to understand requirements and resolve issues.
• Write maintainable, readable code with appropriate documentation.
• Use Git-based workflows for source control, code review, and collaboration.
• Troubleshoot software issues in Linux environments.
• Work with logs, databases, metrics, or operational data as needed.
• Participate in design discussions, testing, debugging, and release preparation.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

A successful candidate will be a dependable Java developer who can become productive in an existing codebase, communicate clearly with other engineers, and help deliver reliable software. We value practical problem solving, good judgment, and steady execution.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Approximately 5+ years of professional Java development experience.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and practical software engineering principles.
• Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining production software.
• Comfortable working in Linux environments.
• Familiarity with Bash or similar scripting tools.
• Experience using Git for source control.
• Ability to read, understand, and improve existing code.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a technical team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:

• Networking concepts, especially IP networking or wireless networking.
• SQL and relational databases such as MariaDB or MySQL.
• Time-series data, logs, metrics, or telemetry systems.
• Prometheus, Grafana, or similar monitoring and visualization tools.
• Data visualization or basic data analysis.
• Google Protocol Buffers.
• Web UI development.
• Android application development.
• Experience working with semi-structured or unstructured data.
