Software Engineering Discipline Lead - Simulation & Defence Systems | Victoria | Hybrid | Full-time

Join an Australian engineering firm developing advanced simulation and motion technologies used across the defence sector. The company designs and builds high-fidelity driver training simulators for military vehicles integrating robotics, control systems, and immersive software to replicate real-world driving conditions with precision.

Your new role

You'll lead a team of 13 software engineers working on complex, real-world systems. Your focus is on:

• Building a strong, scalable software team
  
• Driving delivery and prioritisation
  
• Lifting engineering discipline, quality, and assurance
  
• Mentoring engineers at different stages of their careers

There is an established Principal Engineer in the structure. You're not expected to be the deepest technical specialist in the room, but you must come from a software engineering background.
And be able to guide, challenge, and support engineers credibly.
You'll work closely with senior leadership and be the main interface for software delivery, performance, and team health.

What you'll need to succeed

• A software engineer by background (C++ experience strongly preferred)
  
• Proven experience leading software teams
  
• Comfortable balancing delivery, people leadership, and technical oversight
  
• Able to step in when engineers are stuck and give practical guidance
  
• Experience with Agile environments and tools like Jira
  
• Exposure to safety-critical, regulated, or complex engineering environments is highly regarded.
  
• Australian citizenship (eligibility for Defence Security Clearance required)
