Role Description
Solutions Developer
Department
Technology
Reports To
Chief Technology Officer (Directly)
Tech Stack
NetSuite (SuiteScript 1.0 / 2.x), JavaScript (ES6+), Node.js, Figma, GitHub
Role Summary
This role functions as the primary technical troubleshooter for the organization’s ERP and business systems. Operating as a direct extension of the CTO, this entity is responsible for diagnosing complex NetSuite issues, drafting architectural solutions, and writing JavaScript/SuiteScript automations.
Crucially, this role operates on a strict “Propose & Execute” model: All proposed code changes, scripts, or workflow adjustments must be reviewed and green-lit by the CTO prior to deployment in the production environment. Within that guardrail, the role is expected to work independently and self-directed—identifying problems, designing solutions, and driving work to completion without day-to-day supervision.
Key Responsibilities
1. Diagnostic & Root Cause Analysis
■
Deep-Dive Debugging: Investigate error logs, execution contexts, and script failures within NetSuite (User Events, Client Scripts, Map/Reduce, Scheduled Scripts) to identify the root cause of user issues.
■
Gap Analysis: Review current system limitations against user needs to determine if a requested “fix” requires a simple patch or a new automation logic.
2. Solution Design & Code Proposal (The Approval Gate)
■
Script Drafting: Write clean, efficient SuiteScript (2.0/2.1) or JavaScript patches to resolve identified issues.
■
Technical Briefs: Submit a concise summary to the CTO containing:
○
The Problem (Bug/Blocker).
○
The Root Cause.
○
The Proposed Code Fix (Snippet or File).
○
Risk Assessment (Impact on existing records/workflows).

■
Staging Validation: Test fixes in the Sandbox environment first to demonstrate proof-of-concept to the CTO.
■
Design Mockups: Use Figma to draft UI/UX mockups and visual proposals for new interfaces, dashboards, or customer-facing changes before any code is written.
3. Execution & Deployment
■
Authorized Deployment: Upon receiving the CTO’s explicit sign-off, deploy the fix to Production.
■
Automation Development: Create and deploy robust automations (e.g., auto-invoicing, record transformation, custom validations) to permanently solve recurring manual user errors.
■
Version Control: Maintain all code in GitHub with clear commit history, branch hygiene, and pull-request reviews tied to each Technical Brief.
■
Website Deployment: Own end-to-end deployment of company-facing web properties and internal tools—build pipelines, hosting configuration, DNS, SSL, and post-deploy verification.
4. User Liaison
■
Technical Translation: Translate complex user reports (“My order is stuck”) into technical realities (“The UserEvent script failed on the ‘afterSubmit’ entry point due to a null value”).
Required Capabilities
■
SuiteScript Mastery: Deep expertise in SuiteScript 1.0 and 2.x (Client, User Event, Scheduled, Map/Reduce, Suitelet, Portlet).
■
JavaScript Proficiency: Strong command of core JavaScript (ES6+), handling asynchronous operations, and JSON data manipulation.
■
Data Structure Logic: Ability to design efficient Saved Searches and SuiteQL queries to support automations.
■
Figma: Comfortable creating and iterating on UI mockups, wireframes, and visual specs in Figma to communicate proposed changes before implementation.
■
GitHub: Fluent with Git workflows—branching, pull requests, code review, resolving merge conflicts, and using GitHub for source-of-truth code management.
■
Website Deployment: Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining live websites and web apps (build configuration, hosting platforms, DNS, SSL, environment management, rollback procedures).
■
Self-Direction & Independence: Able to take an ambiguous problem, scope it, design a solution, and drive it to a deployable proposal without being task-managed. Knows when to move and when to pause for the Approval Gate.
■
Operational Discipline: Willingness to pause and seek approval rather than “cowboy coding” in production, ensuring stability is maintained.

Sample Workflow
How this role interacts day-to-day:
1.
User Report: “I can’t save this Sales Order.”
2.
Role Action: Logs in, reproduces error, identifies a conflict in a custom Client Script.
3.
The Proposal (To CTO): “Conflict found in customscript_so_validate. It’s blocking saves on legacy items. I have written a fix (Line 45) to ignore legacy IDs. Branch pushed to GitHub, tested in Sandbox—works. Ready to deploy?”
4.
CTO Action: “Approved.”
5.
Role Action: Merges PR, updates script file in Production. Notifies User. Ticket Closed.
