Job Summary:

At Helm Operations, we build the software that keeps the world's maritime operations moving - from tugboats in Vancouver Harbour to pilotage authorities across Australia. We're a small start-up turned global leader in marine software, serving many of the world's largest maritime companies. We're looking for a full-stack Software Developer, based in India, to join our Professional Services team and deliver custom development and integrations for our customers.

As a Software Developer on the PS team, you'll work across the full stack to deliver across several active, funded customer projects - including the Tiller and Pilbara pilotage engagements and the Odyssey jobs work - building features and integrations within the Helm CONNECT platform. You'll thrive in an environment where you may be working across multiple projects at a time, switching gears to manage shifting priorities, and you'll leverage AI-assisted development tools to build at speed. The role is based in India to provide cost-effective capacity and closer time-zone overlap with our Australian customers.

Job Description:

What you are responsible for:

Design & Delivery:

  • Design and develop custom applications and features for the Helm CONNECT customer base across the full software stack.
    - Develop complex integrations between Helm CONNECT and third-party software.
    - Deliver across multiple concurrent Professional Services projects (Tiller pilotage, Pilbara pilotage, Odyssey jobs), managing timelines and quality.
    - Break down requirements and participate in or lead ticket grooming.

Quality & Collaboration:

  • Perform peer code reviews and ensure design and coding adhere to Helm's standards.
    - Create clear and functional test cases.
    - Work with Business Analysts, Product, QA, and other developers to deliver high-value, high-quality solutions that meet customer needs.
    - Participate in daily stand-ups, kick-offs, collaborative estimation, and retrospectives.
    - Document architecture, integration runbooks, and project configuration in Confluence to reduce single-point-of-dependency risk.

AI-Augmented Development:

  • Use AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate feature development, test generation, and documentation.
    - Critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and domain fit before merging.
    - Become fully trained on all assigned Helm products and tools.

What you bring to the team:

Technical Acumen:

  • A related Bachelor's degree (computer science or related field).
    - 3+ years of related software development experience.

- Full-stack knowledge.

  • C# / .NET, JavaScript, HTML5, T-SQL and PostgreSQL.
    - Experience with development tools: Visual Studio, Git/GitHub, PowerShell.
    - Front-end framework experience (Vue preferred).
    - Demonstrated learning agility and the ability to work effectively in an agile environment.

Business & Communication:

  • Strong ability to translate requirements discussions into detailed, accurate Jira tickets.
    - Strong written and verbal communication skills (English fluency required).
    - Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
    - Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines across multiple projects.

Bonus points if you also have:

- Maritime industry knowledge.

  • Experience building .NET microservices and APIs.
    - Exposure to DevOps and AWS.
    - Hands-on experience using AI tools (Claude, Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate development.

Who you are:

  • Goal-Oriented, Self-Motivated, and Ownership-driven - you own your role and make things happen.
    - A strong communicator and collaborator who enjoys working with BAs and customers.
    - Versatile - you thrive both independently and as part of a tight-knit team, and can juggle multiple projects.
    - A problem-solver who tackles challenges with critical thinking and creativity.
    - Detail-oriented, organized, and consistently delivers high-quality work.
    - You learn by doing and are always ready to learn something new.
