Software Architect – Surgical Robotics
Houston, TX | Full-Time
I'm currently partnering with a rapidly growing surgical robotics company that's expanding its engineering organization as it continues to develop next-generation robotic technology for the operating room. This is an opportunity to join an innovative team where you'll have a significant influence on the architecture and future direction of products that are making a real impact on patient outcomes.
As a Software Architect, you'll be responsible for defining the software architecture of complex embedded robotic systems, working closely with software, hardware, systems, and electronics engineers to build reliable, high-performance solutions in a safety-critical environment. This is a highly technical role with plenty of opportunity to shape engineering decisions, mentor other engineers, and drive best practices across the software organisation.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own the architecture and design of complex embedded software platforms.
- Provide technical leadership and guide software development across multiple engineering teams.
- Design scalable, real-time and distributed software systems for robotic applications.
- Work closely with hardware engineers to deliver tightly integrated hardware/software solutions.
- Drive software quality, reliability, and performance within a safety-critical environment.
- Ensure requirements management, software design, and traceability are maintained throughout the development lifecycle.
What They're Looking For
You'll likely come from a background as a:
- Software Architect
- Embedded Software Architect
- Systems Architect
- Robotics Software Architect
- Principal or Lead Software Engineer looking to move into, or already operating in, an architecture-focused role.
Technical Skills
You'll have strong experience with:
- Modern C++
- Embedded Linux
- QNX and/or other RTOS
- Real-time embedded software
- Distributed systems
- Complex software architecture
- Hardware/software integration
- Safety-critical software development
Industry Experience
Candidates from any of the following sectors would be highly relevant:
- Medical Devices
- Surgical or Healthcare Robotics
- Aerospace
- Defence
- Automotive (ADAS/Autonomous Vehicles)
- Industrial Robotics
- Semiconductor or Electronics
This is an excellent opportunity to join a company experiencing substantial growth, where you'll have genuine ownership of technical decisions while helping build cutting-edge robotic systems that are transforming modern surgery.
If you'd be interested in hearing more about the company, the technology, and what they're building, I'd be happy to arrange a confidential conversation.
