Why We Hire
The FMCG Customer Strategy Department within our Consumer Goods & General Electronics Direct Business is seeking individuals to join us in maximizing sales revenue. As our business continues to expand, we are conducting customer data analysis and implementing rapid A/B testing based on these insights to further improve UI/UX.
In this position, you will work as a data engineer to extract and analyze customer purchasing data and website visitor data for UI/UX improvements, including visualization through BI tools.
Additionally, Rakuten Group is actively engaged in business process improvements and productivity enhancements using generative AI, and this position offers opportunities to gain experience with various AI technologies.

Position Details
As a data engineer, you will be responsible for analyzing purchasing and access data for e-commerce sites operated by our business division, including Rakuten 24, as well as building analytical environments and researching and implementing new technologies.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and build new databases/data marts. Improve and optimize existing databases
- Create, operate, and maintain BI dashboards
- Create SQL queries for purchasing and access data extraction, aggregation, and analysis
- Requirements definition, data extraction, data validation, comprehensive data pattern coverage, and report creation based on purchasing and access data analysis requests
- Create and maintain documentation for analysis/aggregation manuals, designs, etc
- To improve business metrics such as user churn rates and conversion rates: identifying issues through data analysis, proposing solutions, and validating effectiveness through A/B testing
- Conducting PoC (Proof of Concept) for implementing new BI tools

- E-commerce industry server-side/front-end engineers (with SQL experience)
- Promoted to leader within 3 years of joining and excelling in the role
- Joined as a front-end engineer and successfully took on dual responsibilities as a data engineer
- Experience in SQL creation and design (2+ years)
- Able to understand table structures and perform data extraction using multiple table joins, subqueries, and conditional settings.
- Experience in creating dashboards with BI tools (1+ years)
- Experience in database design and construction using RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, etc.), Data warehouse, and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.)
- Development and usage experience with Google Cloud services (Cloud Run/Looker/BigQuery/Storage/Vertex AI, etc.)
- Experience implementing new BI tools
- Data warehouse construction experience
- Data engineering task experience (data extraction based on business requirements, cleansing missing values and outliers, data design, integrity checks, dataset maintenance, data provision, visualization, monitoring)
- Experience in data processing and script creation using programming languages such as Python
