Data Engineer - Front Office Data Platform - NYC Hedge Fund
Indexed description
A well-established macro fund is building out the data platform that will sit underneath its next decade of investing. This is a ground-floor seat on a small, high-caliber data team - the kind of place where engineers own their work outright and have real line of sight into how the business makes decisions, not just what got dropped into a ticket queue.
About the Role
The team is in the early innings of standing up a scalable, modern data platform - consolidating data onto Snowflake, building pipelines that feed the applications the front office relies on, and setting the standards for how clean, trusted data moves across the firm. You'll partner closely with investment and technology stakeholders to figure out the right way to do this, not just execute a spec someone else wrote. The firm leans heavily on data to drive its edge, and this role is central to making that data fast, reliable, and genuinely usable.
What we're looking for
- 2+ years in software engineering, with at least 2 focused specifically on data engineering
- Strong experience or familiarity with investment data (Bloomberg, Reuters, FactSet)
- Strong Python and SQL, with hands-on depth in Postgres or SQL Server
- Real, end-to-end ownership of ETL/ELT pipelines - design through production
- Solid data modeling and query optimization chops
- Comfort working across functions and translating for non-technical stakeholders
- Nice to have: exposure to DBT or distributed processing tools such as Spark, Databricks, or PySpark
