Senior Data Engineer
Indexed description
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will serve as a pivotal hands-on contributor within a multinational data consultancy. You will be responsible for critical data ingestion, transformation, and modelling tasks, influence architectural decisions, and collaborate closely with analytics, product, and platform teams. This position encompasses a combination of consultancy-driven projects and product development initiatives.
What you’ll do:
- Own end-to-end data pipelines (batch & streaming) — from design and schema evolution to monitoring and optimization
- Build scalable data flows using SQL-first ELT and modern orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster)
- Contribute to architecture decisions — storage formats (Parquet, Delta, Iceberg), compute patterns, and medallion/lakehouse design
- Ensure data quality, governance, and security (testing, monitoring, lineage, IAM, row/column-level controls)
- Automate infrastructure and workflows using Terraform and CI/CD practices
- Collaborate with BI, product, and stakeholders to deliver business-ready data models
- Support operations (incident response, performance tuning) and continuously improve pipeline reliability and efficiency
- Mentor team members, review code, and contribute to engineering best practices
Core skills and Knowledge:
- 3+ years experience in Data Engineering or Analytics Engineering
- Strong SQL and production-level Python
- Hands-on experience building cloud-native pipelines (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)
- Solid understanding of data modelling (incl. incremental loads, SCD concepts)
- Experience with monitoring, performance, and cost optimization
- Ability to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
- Solid fundamentals and adaptability, recognising the common patterns and threads through “the modern data stack” with an ability to learn quickly and translate solutions from one vendor to another (i.e. AWS -> Azure -> GCP etc.).
- Working knowledge of the OSI model, protocols and common system interfaces (i.e. HTTP, ODBC, NFS, WebHooks, WebSockets, gRPC etc.).
Nice to have:
- Experience with dbt (or similar), Databricks, Terraform
- Familiarity with Data Vault, lakehouse architectures, or feature stores
- Exposure to modern tooling (CI/CD, Kubernetes, data ingestion frameworks)
✨ You’ll work on end-to-end solutions across multiple clouds, influence architecture decisions, and help build reliable, scalable data ecosystems.
