What You'll Do
- Strategic Leadership: Defining and executing Waystar's overall data strategy, including data governance, data quality, data architecture, and data analytics roadmap to support business objectives.
- Team Management & Development: Building, mentoring, and leading a high-performing team of data engineers, data scientists, and data analysts, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Data Governance & Compliance: Establishing and enforcing robust data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data accuracy, security, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA).
- Data Platform & Architecture: Overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and robust data platforms, data warehouses, data lakes, and analytical tools. Evaluating and implementing new data technologies and solutions.
- Advanced Analytics & Reporting: Driving the development and deployment of advanced analytical models, machine learning algorithms, and predictive insights to inform strategic decisions across various departments (e.g., product, marketing, finance, operations).
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partnering closely with business leaders and cross-functional teams to understand their data needs, identify opportunities for data-driven improvements, and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) for data initiatives, monitoring data quality, and optimizing data processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Budget Management: Managing budgets for data management and analytics initiatives, ensuring optimal resource allocation and ROI.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred.
- Experience:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in data management, data warehousing, business intelligence, and advanced analytics, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing large teams.
- Proven experience in defining and implementing data strategies and roadmaps in a complex organizational environment.
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling data platforms and analytics capabilities from the ground up.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing concepts.
- Proficiency with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and related services (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks).
- Strong command of SQL, Python, or R for data manipulation and analysis.
- Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and data visualization techniques.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and statistical modeling.
- Leadership & Soft Skills:
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of delivering measurable business impact through data.
- Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain top data talent.
- Experience in the healthcare technology or financial technology industry is a significant plus.
- Ability to navigate complex technical and business challenges and drive initiatives to successful completion.
