The Data Engineer connects the data suppliers (α-engineers) to the data users (β-engineers). The data suppliers (i.e. data owners and stewards in IT terminology) have the responsibility to provide clean data, meta- and masterdata to the data engineer, who is enabled to harmonize and connect the data and present it to the data users and facilitates them (e.g. CTO Energy, Quality, Supply Chain, Reliability, Process).
As a data engineer you are part of a dedicated Data Team and in close contact with the Data Governance Officer, the Cloud Expert, the IT Architect and the industrial IT teams. You will be physically located in a manufacturing plant, but working corporate, reporting to the global CDO to preserve standardization and governance.
As a Data Engineer, you:
- show interest in understanding the stainless, electrical steel production process
- understand and connect business data
- facilitate the business by setting up scalable and well governed structures
- assist the business with use-case development and implementation
- are responsible for designing, developing, deploying and maintaining efficient data orchestration pipelines
- preserve and shape standardized cost effective data pipelines
- implement best practices for data structuring, storage and retrieval
- maintain and develop data models that reflect our industry and the diversity of our business needs
- support data standardization and governance
- collaborate with teams to enhance data reliability and consistency
- support data quality and integrity (including tool creation for SPC)
- are responsible for technical specifications
- have a Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or IT or engineering with 5-10 years experience ideally in a manufacturing or industrial sector
- are a team player
- posses good communication skills
- have strong analytical skills
- focus on robust and cost-effective code development
- have experience with cloud-based big data solutions (Databricks, Microsoft Data Fabric)
- have knowledge of distributed cloud computing and storage and big data frameworks and challenges
- are familiar with infrastructure as code (Terraform) and version control systems (GIT)
- are familiar with CI/CD for automated deployments
are fluent in English (both speaking and writing) and French, Portuguese or Dutch language skills are a plus
