Role Summary
Our client, a global digital transformation consultancy delivering enterprise data platforms on Microsoft technologies, is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to join their Data & AI practice.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for a candidate with a consultancy background and deep, demonstrable expertise in Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, who can set technical direction, own client relationships, and lead delivery on enterprise-scale data platform engagements.
Candidates from purely internal/in-house data teams, without prior consulting or professional services experience, will not meet the essential criteria for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and oversee delivery of data platform, analytics, and data science projects, liaising directly with client stakeholders
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to team members; build a strong learning culture within the practice
- Maintain current expertise in data technology trends; share knowledge via speaking engagements, publications, and workshops
- Define executive-level data roadmaps and detailed data/AI governance frameworks for clients
- Partner with project management to plan delivery team workload and ensure quality of deliverables
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
- 12+ years' industry experience, including 4 most recent years as a hands-on manager leading teams on enterprise-scale data platform projects
- 4+ years in a consulting/professional services role, working directly with enterprise customers
- Strong, hands-on expertise with Microsoft Fabric, plus Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Power BI, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Database for PostgreSQL
- Deep, demonstrable Databricks expertise, including enterprise-level strategy and architecture across Unity Catalog, data warehousing, data sharing, and Mosaic AI
- Proven experience architecting end-to-end modern data platforms in Azure: design, ingestion, storage strategy, analytics/reporting, Apache Spark, and networking
- Experience establishing data management strategy, including governance, security, master data management, and industry-specific security requirements
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical teams and client stakeholders
